Earlier today, I was playing with some people and we had a problem in which there was 5 of us and strategy games limit the maximum player count to 4, so I wondered if it was possible to make a strategy match capable of allowing more than 4 players.
After some mucking about with netmis.txt, changing player limits to 20 and such on strat maps, I and a few others quickly realised that it's not as simple as that. Spock quickly caught wind of this and told us not to screw about with the stock maps. I then thought, "what about making a strat map with say 8 spawn points". So I did. After about 3 hours working out how to use the map editor correctly, I have made an 8 player strategy map! I have no idea whether it will work or not, but it worked fine when I played it on my own.
Please can some people download the files and fill in a new line in netmis.txt for the map so that we can test whether it works or not?
Yes, it is possible, but you will need to design the map with 8 spawn points. All the stock strategy maps have a maximum of 4 spawns. Why do you think that is? Activision obviously intended for strategy games to be for up to 4 players and DM games for up to 8. I suppose a DM game with more than 8 can still work, but strategy is meant for no more than 4.
After explaining why Activision limited it to 4, what makes you think I am interested in playing with 8? No thanks. Besides, I am too busy with other things to play right now.

There is no need to get all bitchy about it. People create maps and mods all the time, and Activision couldn't care less. Activision limiting strat maps to 4 players is irrelavent to whether or not 8 player will work. If you're not going to do what the topic asks you to, which is to test the map, then don't bother posting on it.
The first post says something different than it did when I was replying. When I read it, there was more or less just the question of "is it possible" and I answered that question. Also, I don't see a map download, I only see BZN, TRN, and HGT, and I don't even know why they are separate downloads.
I guess the only things that are missing are the .vxt, .bmp, and .des files, and maybe a simple text file with the netmis line for it. It's a good idea to place all those files into a single .ZIP archive and post that for download.
If you want all vehicles available (like most maps) just make your .vxt file have this:

Joseph, you should not bother with 8 player strategy maps, I tried once with 6 players, and the lag is just too bad. In theory its possible, Battlezone won't crash if there are 8 spawn points and you are able to play it fine, but if it's worth it, no.

Here is the final, completed winrar archive ready for download!
EDIT #1: Updated the winrar archive available for download as it had a print screen of the map, not a shellmap.bmp LOL.
EDIT #2: Updated the winrar archive for the second time by adding a new file, multst84.mat, a file which is vital for the map to load and run correctly. (I had some real trouble trying to reach this file as .mat files are known to crash windows explorer, however thanks to Goomba, I have fixed this problem and I can now open the addon folder without a crash! )
EDIT #3: Updated the winrar archive for the third time as the description was incorrect.
