When I'm playing 1.4 (singleplayer and multiplayer), all audio lags. it works but there are distinct gaps between words. Any fixes?

P.S. MY BRAIN FEELS LIKE IT'S LAGGING!

I thought maybe you were extremely low on RAM, but with 2 GB, that is way more than enough. I guess your processor is single core? Try closing all other applications and see if that improves it. If that's not it, I don't know.

Does this issue also happen in 1.5?

Was it always like that or it started happening recently? If it is not your audio card driver (try updating), then it's some setting in it or a codec issue.

OK audio card driver is already updated. You said something about the settings....what are your settings? Maybe I can get a little further with yours. :P

I meant on the settings in your audio card control panel.

Are you running Battlezone in Windows XP Service Pack 3 Compatibility mode? If you are then uncheck it and try running Battlezone again, hopefully the sound will stop lagging now. :)

I had this same problem and I didn't realise that I was running BZ in compatibility mode, after turning it off all sound lag has stopped.

Other 3D intensive programs or Internet Explorer tend to lag your sound, close all applications and try to rerun BZ. Also if possible make sure your channels in sound card panel and BZ options menu match.
