I've finally gotten things working on Win7 with the Take Ownership registry hack and compatibility mode and the game is nearly perfect (even the AVIs work, which I'm realy pleased with). The one part that hasn't quite worked is the audio. I'm now left with the most horrendous stutter imaginable. I can finish a mission and Collins will still be half-way through the first voiceover. Has anybody else encountered this, and what can be done? Changing the sound options seemed to make no difference.

"Take Ownership registry hack"
Why was that needed? Cause you are not admin of that comp? "Run as admin" was probably enough to do.
"even the AVIs work"
You mean planet animations, not vehicle animations, right? XP compatibility mode does that.
As for audio issues, nobody else reported such problems on Win7 so it must be your comp. Update your audio card drivers.

Take Ownership was my next port of call, as in my experience it does work sometimes (I had the same thing with both my BZ2 and Q2 installs). Mr. Spock wrote: You mean planet animations, not vehicle animations, right? XP compatibility mode does that. Really? I didn't know that. And yes, planet and menu animations. (I'm running in NT4.0 compatibility mode because I got Internal Exceptions with everything else. That's a moot point though). My audio drivers are bang up to date, though it could be a driver issue with W7. I have been having that a lot (monitor and iPod) though they were system-wide issues, not constrained to a single program like this. I'll have a look for drivers and see what I can pull up.

Thank you for your guy's work on this game! But anyway, back to the topic, He's not the only one. I got it too as well. My audio driver is up to date. Weird thing is the sound only stutters in game (in any mission including training) and i tried compatibility mode on Windows 98,2000, and XP SP2 and SP3. (I'm using Windows 7 btw).
But i do notice when the commentator at the background of the game talks and i go to the main menu, there's no stutter at all at that slight moment. Hm, any ideas how to fix this up? Thank you for your time. Hope to hear a reply soon.

No idea why it works now, but it does.

just a guess, it might be worthy to try with firewall/AV/wifi switched off ? In musical software, it's common for these to be a nuisance. just a thought.
