Two questions 1) How do you get Battlezone to work on Windows 7. I get an error when I try to play. I t tells me Unhandled exception every time.
2) Is there a program that hosts games for Battlezone multiplayer games? GameRanger only hosts Battlezone II games.

i get the same thing, only after i click "LAUNCH" when trying to connect to multiplayer. i can play single player fine, and i run win 7, with a intel core 2 quad processor, 2 gigs of RAM, and an 8800GTS graphics card... and i think i have directx10 or 11 (if 11 exsists yet) thanks to steam games. so i dont know what my problem is... i guess im just gonna have to find an ETA for the 1.5 patch and hope its soon. just got this game installed today and i love it.

First, welcome to Battlezone BZ was made back in 1998 and its engine never went through an "update" to be compatible with newer computers, it was made on DX3. Ken is graciously creating the 1.5 patch (with DX 9 as the engine) so it will be playable by all modern computer systems. There are some crashes associated with the latest 1.5 BETA build, but they are being ironed out by Ken...who is not being paid to pretty much rewrite nearly all the source code of a commercial game (he does it in his free time). The ETA of 1.5 is up in the air, remember it is only Ken. The best thing you can do to help speed up its release is beta test the latest beta-builds of 1.5 and identify any bugs you come across. PS: If you ever want "live" support from members who might be able to help you out, check out our TeamSpeak. There's usually Spork, Guren, and BattleDroid in there. I make sporadic appearances in the evening, EST.

Not sure about the errors as I only have XP, but the direct download link for 1.5 beta is: http://ultraken.dyndns.org/www/bzone_2010-07-12.7z (7 zip file)

Actually, this is the link to the complete download of 1.5 beta. It takes more than just the new executable to run 1.5 properly, there's a few new files, and you'll need a separate installation for 1.5, so that you don't screw up your 1.4 installation with incompatible 1.5 files. 1.5 beta installer takes care of all that. It also includes DirectX and Visual C++ Redistributable, required for running 1.5 beta. Enjoy! I don't know why your BZ would work fullscreen and then stop working though.

All these Tech Support topics look the same; there's a guy with a problem, but when asking for help he forgets to post system specifications (yes, router model too), or BZ he's using (it makes a lot difference if it is BZ98 or CD isntallation), or he makes crucial changes to the game (like resolution and render), without mentioning them. Then forum's finest are trying to help him, unsuccesfully of course (SnakeEye is my favorite). Sporkinator has 2075 posts, Snowcone 464, SnakeEye 266... You guys are here almost every day, so you should know the answers to all F.A.Q, even if awaken in the middle of the night. If you don't know, why you even bother posting and confusing new members/potential players with your ignorance? IE, Snowcone's link is useful only if you are executable collector, otherwise there's no much you can do with it. It leads to one of the (experimental) builds, not to 1.5b (which doesn't exist) or 1.5b installer, which exists here - http://www.battlezone1.net/patch. We all know what happened when SE was reporting 1.5 issues while only using the exe. Why is so hard to remember that stock game (and BZ98) come in 640x480 resolution, which is the only working Window mode resolution, and also the resolution you get after the first crash? Then why is so hard to remember that BZ in Vista/7+Nvidia combination requires BZ resolution 800x600 or higher, and that there's no fix for white boxes on radar map (Vista/7+Nvidia GeForce)? All this was already said too many times. I'll have to rewrite FAQ from our main site when I find time... This is what probably happened: fox_inuyasha installed the game, changed resolution and played some SP. Then he tried to play MP, but crashed (could be due anims, z-buffer... probably due ports in his case, but hard to tell without more info). After a crash he got 640x480 resolution again, but this time he didn't change it. Now he's crashing in both SP and MP. Solution: if you are using BZ98 and you didn't mess with the render.cfg, change BZ resolution back to 800x600+ and check if you need port forwarding (ask someone in the lobby to try joining your game). Whatever happens, be sure to report back here.

Take a look at the guy who started this topic. He didn't even respond to my graphic card question. fox_inuyasha wrote: what about the random squares of white-blue light showing on the ground when shooting? has that been reported at all? =o That's coming in the pack with radar issues, Nvidia GeForce thing. P.S. After my previous post everybody ignored this guy's issue. With knowing how forum's finest think, I expected something like that, but that was not the point of my post...
