You know the drill... Let's make 1.5 installer perfect before it leaves the beta phase...

Any suggestions?

Here you can see what's already in it.

It apparently doesn't have custom maps that BZ 1998 installer has. I hosted on Moon War and opponent could not join, he didn't have the map.

Every custom map has to be voted again.

It would be easier to contribute to this discussion if you actually had the installer.

the only custom map have a vote for is Biometal run. i vote down on the earth map, and am currently neutral on all others.

i just downloaded the installer and i cannot start the game. idk if i was supposed to do something different but i sucessfully installed it. whenever i click the executable the game doesnt start. there is no reaction of any kind.

i am running windows vista 32 bit, 3gb RAM, 1.86 ghz intel core 2 duo processor, integrated intel graphics card.

Excellent, votes down are needed too. I presume you vote down Allien Yard too?

Be sure 1.4 is not running when trying to start 1.5 (I use RO in window mode, while sitting in 1.4 lobby). If you still can't start it, run it as administrator (right click on the icon).

oh haha yes. my IA mission votes are down on alien yard, outpost, and great pyramid. up on all the rest

MP maps i need to play more. i so rarely play custom maps besides BMR that i really dont know much there. ill get more votes for those later. for now neutral except for what ive already said. oh, up on battle arena

1.4 is definately not running when i try to start 1.5

i was sucessfully able to start 1.5 by running the executable(not the shortcut) as administrator.

i encountered a minor shell error: i went to the options page and every time i hovered over a button, it would disappear after hovering over it.

ill get more test info up shortly

You should report 1.5 issues to Ken. That's the main purpose of 1.5b - easier testing of EB. Installer is not responsible for BZ not working right.

In this quote from the Vulcan, I put in red the ones I prefer not to have in the Installer.

I'll do the same thing for the DM maps. :P
Quote:
DM:
Ancients
Armpits
Base Raid
Battle-Arena
Bommamid
Death Circle
Dragon's Mouth
Dueling Arena
Face of Death
Io
Lunar Chaos
Mag Arena
Mags Cage
Nebraska
Parp Parp
Rend
Rings
Scouts & Rockets
Scouts & Rockets III
Total Recall
Walker Arena
War Zone
Z Heavy Metal

I guess there's only 1 (custom) DM map I really dislike. It's called "Walker Arena". Ironically, you can't pick a walker, you can only be a pilot. There are only 3 walkers on the map, which doesn't make sense if there are more than 3 players. I think it's just not designed well, it's a joke.

i am in total agreement with both hyper and spork. here are more maps that i would prefer not in the installer.

STRAT:
Charon
Draconis v1.5
Dunes
Gomek
Highland Siege
HiLo
Nasty Surprise v2.0
Punishment v2.0
Strike at the Heart v2.0
Valkyrie

most of these have too much or poorly placed scrap, or just are confusing

The part where I debate constructively(or sporadically) begins right about......now.....

The codes in red are the ones that I could(from a different perspective) understand why you might not want them in the installer. The others I could have some response to why they should be in the installer.

Charon

Not the best custom map, but it has a lot of(nearby) scrap. I think this is a map that's pretty good for noobs still learning the game. It's not a bad map.

HiLo

I've played on HiLo a few times. I've won a few and lost a few games. It seems pretty cool and gives the challenge that I enjoy in a strat game. I'd be unhappy to see this map out of the installer.

Nasty Surprise v2.0

I haven't played a serious strat game on Nasty Surprise, but it seems like an ok map. It may also be that I appeal to this map for my many memories of this map during Single Player. :)

I vote YES on Charon. It may have ridiculous scrap, but it's a nice small map for new players to practice on, and I like it just because it's small.

Draconis 1.5... wacky design, a lot of scrap, I think it's an OK map, certainly not the best custom map. It's big. Not too sure whether to vote YES or NO on this one... maybe when in doubt throw it out? :P

I vote YES on Dunes. Although I haven't played a game on it, I explored it to see scrap and geyser placement, and it looks fun to me.

I vote YES on Gomek, it looks OK to me.

I vote YES on Highland Siege. It's a great 4 player map with some geysers away from spawn points. Certainly better than Pac-man. ;)

I played against my brother on HiLo, I think it's a good map. I vote YES.

I vote YES on Nasty Surprise v2.0. I think the geysers away from spawn points and the scrap placement is good.

I vote YES on Punishment v2.0. It has a layout based on the final CCA mission "Punishing the Black Dogs". I have nothing against the scrap or geyser placement, it's a good map.

Strike at the Heart v2.0 looks good to me. Wipe open spaces and scrap to fight for. I vote YES.

Valkyrie... it might be from The Red Odyssey, but I think it's just too darn big, like Moon v1.5. I vote NO on both Moon v1.5 and Valkyrie. Maps like Moon v1.5 and Valkyrie are likely why some DM players say "strat takes too long" or "strat is too slow and boring". On a good strat map, the action is fast-paced and intense.

i still vote no on charon for the ridiculous scrap count, but ill stay neutral on the rest. good points spork. i voted no on highland siegh cuz its hard to find places to build on it

i definately vote NO on moon 1.5 and valkyrie because they are too big. and also down on tobruk because it is also too big even though alot of ppl seem to play it

Interesting. The reason you don't like Highland Siege (hard to build structures) is what makes it potentially interesting in my opinion. It forces you to take advantage of different units and different tactics.

I think Tobruk is OK, its size didn't bug me as much as the size of Moon v1.5 and Valkyrie.

I vote YES on Moon War, it's a good small 2 player map.

I vote NO on Earth. Aside from the ugly terrain graphics where you see black patches from a distance, the map isn't designed well. I played on it only a couple of times, and have bad memories of my units falling off the edge of the map, where they couldn't get back up, and I could not get to them.

I vote YES on Grand Theft. It's nicely designed.

I tried Lifeline once, liked it. It's a keeper. :)

I don't like the design of Xenophobia... does anybody even play that map?
