Hello! I originally played BZ on the N64 when I was little and fell in love with the unique game style of an RTS/FPS. Recently, after randomly googleing old games I use to play, I discovered to my delight that BZ is on the computer and that you can play the strategy mode with other people! (unlike the N64 multiplayer ).
.............. .... .. .
I played online and got my ass kicked and even with some nice friendly people trying to explain how to help me improve my game I still getting steamrolled. I watch youtube videos of starcraft II with commentary and I found that it really helped me understand the game better. Do you guys have anything like that where someone explains what the heck is going on in the game while two players are fighting it out?

Wow, finally someone who wants to learn. I usually have to beg online people to read the strat guide.

Check Tutorials, subforum in Strategy section; lot of useful info there. I believe Narrated Strategy Guide BioMetal Run is the closest to what you are looking for.

Edit:
Uh, it seems Hyper removed Narrated Strategy Guide from the web. :o Check other topics in that section then.

edit: oh never mind I see you already noticed too..

Sorry guys, I took it down after a while because I thought it was rather amateurish and my voice sounded muffled and low to some people. :(

I've seen those before, could be really helpful on Bz proivided we have someone with a better voice willing to try their hand at BZ commentary.

Great suggestion LoneFox, like always.

Anyhow, maybe we need 2 men for making proper tutorials. I could make video and write instructions for it, and, since English is not my native language, let's say General Golem could edit it with his voice. :)

I would be pleased if someone here would make any useful video, but I don't see Snowcone doing anything for BZ. He only likes to talk about it. I'm not so sure about you either.

You are incorrect. Lone Fox and I have already discussed a time line for filming the action video's, it will start this upcoming week. That gives me plenty of time to get my desktop back up and running since my laptop is starting to have slow frame rate in heavy scenario's, I'm currently waiting on the processor to arrive...which according to UPS should be today. I'm also going to catch the guys on Team Speak to see if they can help out. We haven't thought of doing anything commentary, though. We'll see if the community likes what we come up with enough to make what this topic is concerning.

The Battlezone community here has made many videos, and they've attracted many players. We are losing players to Windows 7 issues and stuff though, which is why we need to finish the 1.5 patch.

I think we should use viral marketing for the game once 1.5 is released. If you havn't already, look up Let's Play. It's an entertaining method of advertising games over the internet and has grown from the Something Awful forums. Games can be sold easily this way, provided the audience is entertained by it. However! The chances of a Battlezone LP becoming popular by itself is low because nobody looks for it. Do commentary, it adds extra interest to your video and makes the game more entertaining. And that will make people want to play it.

Battlezone is an easy game to run. So the chances of it being LPed by a Let's Player, who has no large scale projects under his belt, is good. He/she will look at our game with curious eyes and will delve into it extensively so they can commentate on it while they play and avoid giving out wrong, or false, information to those who watch.
Let's play's can garner over 100,000 views in a single week, provided the Let's Player is well known and likes interesting things.

Here's a few links so you can see what it is like and how popular it is.

A forum that explains LPing in greater detail.

Spoiler:
I used to do Let's plays, by releasing a few videos every other week. But I had to remove them to protect my account from false DMCA flaggers. And as of recently I still have them listed on my account, but I've been so busy building my BZzr mod that I've had little time for anything else. It all boils down to how humorous you can be, I was rather bipolar with my commentary. I'm not sure if that was good or not because I had to destroy the videos before I could gather enough data on the viewers and what they thought of me and my style.

Spoiler:
A complete Let's play, or two, of Battlezone 1.4 would be good for it's image. And for it's communities image. Although, even you could do this, snowcone. You don't have to be really good at the game, you just have to know what you're talking about. I wouldn't let Spock near this because people who are to good at their game can make the LP dry and it'll suck. I've watched a few of those and they shook my interest fairly quickly. If anyone, though, Lonefox is probably the best candidate, he has a great internet connection and can probobly upload HD video, if he has a mic, he can have good audio too. Also, companies do poruse the web for videos of their games. This guy, http://www.youtube.com/user/JosefVStalin is even liked by Paradox Interactive, the company that made one of the games he lp'ed, and they sent him a copy of -Victoria 2?- for free so he could do a review on it, because they liked him and how he did reviews and let's plays.
You might have thought about this, but please, if you're not going to do Battlezone first, purely for marketing purposes, don't LP your favorite game first. Wait until you're more settled down. People can get, and have gotten, really upset when they find out that their favorite game isn't very fun to watch, or very good.

If you're sure you have the time all you need to have is a mic, a manly voice, and a set of recording software and a graphics card capable of providing a smooth framerate. If you want to wait for 1.5, just for qualities sake, and you really do want to start LPing games, than start now by finding a game you haven't played much and get your recording settings configured and your commentary audio set up, so it doesn't overlap the gameplay and can be heard clearly and easily. The practice would be good for you if you do want to start BattleZone when 1.5 is out. I've been putting up video links in channels and many other places and have already brought in around 22 players from the outside. Although I have no clue how many actually downloaded the game and tried it out.

That's very interesting, I never knew something like that existed. The question is- do we want to do that with 1.5 still being worked on or when it is completed?

Nobody wants to watch a video of someone playing a bug riddled patch that's not even finished yet.

An abandoned LP done by someone in this forum can be seen here. It's good, but he gave up on it right when it started to really take off.

Not to mention he posted it on google video. Who does that? Use YouTube or GameAnyone.

Those videos are funny!

I don't have a problem doing them, I do have a mic and graphics card that handle BZ well.

I'll give it a try with solitaire ( ) and see what people think of the narration and voice quality.

We've been making videos about BattleZone for years now and we've only attracted a small handful of players who actually play the game every now and then. We have been doing this for a long time, it's not paying off. The reason? Nobody can find it! Our community is a bit to isolated from the rest of the gaming world and that's bad if we plan on releasing 1.5.
Who is "we"? What isolated community are you talking about?
