Battlezone doesn't work well with some dx10 cards. Future drivers might change that, but for now the best drivers for Bz are those 1 year old. ATI HD series introduced directX 10, but they cut support for directX 5-7, needed for Bz. Same with NVIDIA, GeForce 8 series (later series 9) introduced directX 10 also without old dx support. I heard that some from series 8 work, but radar is black (GeForce 8800 Ultra) or hud is all messed up (GeForce 8800 GTS). Maybe someone with dx10 card can give us better input? Check how Bz with current drivers looks on those cards (click on thumbnail to expand): ATI HD3850 ATI HD3870 GeForce 8800 GTS

8800GT works fine.
(with regular z-buffer bug anyway)
HD-radeons work on XP with the latest drivers, while any ATI-cards on vista fail to start BZ.

the only time i got an unhandled exception, i reinstalled the game.
thanks to all who are keeping the game alive and alive and alive...

bz1.4m works on all the ati cards I have the 3850 installed in me cafe pcs and i have 2600pro and a 3650.
it works fine.
But i only have being using 1.4m for less than a week. good job on it btw.
when 3850 came out i found 1.4l on the web thanks to the battlezone club which allowed me to play online yay.
i would not worry the game should work on any of the cards its more about the os.

great news guys, thanks for posting it. that means dx10 cards won't kill bz after all, as we thought in the beginning...
indeed, bz works strange on different pc's.
some play bz on vista same as they did on xp, others can't even start it after they change os.
dx10 cards are even bigger enigma... bz1 is dx5 game and dx10 cards dropped support for dx5-7, that's a fact.
reaper returned his ati hd3850 (first pic) and changed it for x1950. other guy built another pc for bz because his nvidia 8600 was giving him 5fps. 8800 ultra with newest driver is giving infamous yellow screen... they all have xp and bz worked well before they got new cards. to some drivers from last year were helpful, to some not... i heard more similiar problems in the lobby... some even gave up on bz and went to other games...
and now i hear that you play it without problems on nvidia 8800, ati 2600, 3650 and 3850. i'll have to edit my initial post.
do you use old drivers or the newest? maybe ati and nvidia decided to support older dx with the latest drivers... i still use dx9 card so i can't confirm anything. the more info we gather, easier we will help those with problems.
p.s. i'm glad you like m. if you think something is missing in it you can post here. i'll release new version of bz expansion soon...

I had problems with my 9600GT (miscolored dots on radar, the darned yellow screens, etc.) when I was playing on 1280x1024, but I switched to 640x480 and I had no problems at all. everything works perfectly.

Hi, first post here. Anyways I can confirm that Battlezone works perfectly on Windows XP 32 bit on my system, tried it on Vista 64 bit and the game had lots of problems. Oh well I got a dual boot so no biggy deal.
Either way here are my specs.
Core 2 Dual Wolf Dale @ 3.5Ghz 8 GB DDR 800 Ram (Overkill for Win32) Radeon 4850
Game runs good with max AA/Settings and all the details cranked up to max. Only downside is like I said you gotta run it under Win XP with the Radeon 4850 cause only software is workable in Vista and software is way too slow.
Only thing is I wish turning speed was a little bit faster, but I'll adapt.

Check the FAQ for how to limit your FPS to 60. Not only will you have better turning abilities, you'll be following the server rules if you decide to play online.

I found and followed that link yesterday. Turning is still a little sluggish compared to most FPS games but a tank ain't exactly suppose to turn on a dime anyways, I'm having no problems shooting crap although I'm just playing though the main American story right now. Pretty good I say.

BZ isn't like most FPS games, because most FPS games are not RTS games. Good job starting with campaign, every player should start there. Bombers: Slow Turning Tanks: Medium Turning Light Tanks/Scouts: Fast Turning A lot of the BZ missions can be won without firing a shot if you learn to effectively use your AI units.

I'm learning that. I'm having a lot of fun with this game since I like both FPS and RTS games.
