Greetings,

I'm encountering an issue with opening Battlezone 1 on my computer running Windows 7. Upon installing the game via my Battlezone 1 disk and running the application, Windows 7 reports back an error saying it cannot open the program and it provides the error code 0xc0000005. Yes, I've read the other topics here on this problem but none of the advice there helped. So I tried patching some of the files in the downloads section here including bzone.exe. After doing so that error went away and was replaced with the following error:

"The procedure entry point dpGetCurrentTransportInfo could not be located in the dynamic link library anet2.dll."

Any ideas on how to solve this?

Also I'd like to mention that I installed the 1998 Battlezone file here and that runs fine except the music, videos and things that require the CD don't show up even though the bzone disk is in the computer.

Thanks for any assistance. :)

You get this because BZ files from your CD are outdated, and don't work with up-to-date bzone.exe. You should stick with the Battlezone 1998 Installer for playing BZ, since according to your post it runs just fine. Patching original BZ1 disk is unnecessarily complicated in my opinion, when the installer already has all the patches applied and everything you need. :)

As for the music not playing, make sure your BZ disk is in the CD drive with the lowest drive letter, and then start BZ. It should work just fine, mine does. I have music while running Battlezone, which I installed using the BZ 1998 installer. My CD drive is D:\.

Thanks for the advice.

However even while the disk is in and mounted on D drive, music, videos and such don't work.

The battlezone 1 disk I have is a copy given to me by a friend. Perhaps the files on that disk aren't all there? I found some of the video files but no music. Where would the music be located within the disk?

Ah, this explains it. It's probably not a perfect copy. The music is on the original disk, but not visible when you browse the files, it can be ripped with a media player, if its on there. If your friend simply copied all the files from the original CD to a new CD, that's not the same as making a copy with a program like Alcohol 120%. If your friend brought his original CD, it would work.

To clarify, the installer is not responsible for CD features not working, and it's clear to me now that it's your copied CD that lacks these things.

Hmm, that makes sense. I'm unsure if he owns an original copy or not. What other way would there be to acquire the music? Buying a disk seems impossible considering the age of the game. Also I'm noticing certain other audio files seem to be missing from the game and specially within Red Odyssey.

Getting music in the game requires original CD, or a full image file of that CD mounted with Daemon Tools or some other CD emulator. If you just want the soundtrack, it's here.

The Red Odyssey expansion uses a different CD, with its own music and everything. RO soundtrack is here.

Awesome, you have my thanks! Having the soundtrack will be useful but is it possible to place these audio files in such a way within the BZ directory, or my BZ disk (if I remount or burn it) so the game will recognize it?

If not, what would be the best way of acquiring a Battlezone 1 disk or full ISO from the internet?

Unfortunately, this is not possible. :( But it might be possible in the future, if Ken adds that capability in the patch. But that's still kind of a big "if".

You might find it on eBay or something. Otherwise, check your PM box. Other ways are not allowed to be posted here.

Ah, your solution within that PM was most helpful. Once again I thank you for your help. :)

Actually, after acquiring a copy of Battlezone and mounting it via daemon tools on the lowest possible drive, I encountered another problem. The virtual disk seems to be okay but upon opening the game, I can hear the intro movie playing (which it didn't go before at all) however all I see is a grey screen with lines and the error:

Video not available, cannot find 'vids:IV50' decompresser.

None of the music is playing either. Could that have something to do with why the video isn't playing properly?

You need the Indeo Codec. Go here, it's the download at the bottom.

(codinstl.exe IV50 videos 1.8M)

Check the CD Volume in Windows Volume Control. Make sure it's not muted or turned all the way down.

That codec made all the video show up throughout the game but I still can't get the music to play. I checked the CD volume as you suggested it's turned it.

I've also confirmed the music is there on the disk by opening Windows Media Player and the tracks show up there.

What else could be causing the music to be not recognized by the game?

I can only think of 3 things.

1. Drive letter needs to be the lowest CD drive letter.
Image
Drive J is my real CD drive, D and G are virtual drives. (Although music does not play in game from G)

2. Windows CD Volume needs to not be muted.
Image

3. Music setting in AUDIO OPTIONS in BZ needs to not be turned all the way down. Although it doesn't actually work, I have mine set to match voice volume and effects volume. (all at 1/2)

That is probably not the problem though, as I doubt you would have turned it down after installing BZ. :)

Check all that and it should work, I don't know what else to tell you.

SUCCESS! THANK YOU!!

The disk image was mounted on F: so after changing D: to a virtual drive, the music and everything else started playing. :)

Getting BZ to be the D drive was the original goal when I said it had to be the lowest CD drive letter! Perhaps I didn't make that clear enough until the post with the screenshots. :P

You must be running Windows 7 on a laptop and/or integrated graphics card, since you didn't encounter any "real" technical issues with Battlezone. I'm pretty sure I would get Error 0xc0000005 too if I tried to run an older version of Battlezone (from CD). My CD was BZ 1.0, while BZ 1998 has BZ 1.4. Big difference! ;)
