What do you do when you arrive on a map you've never played before, and have no idea where or how much scrap there is?
what do you build first, and where, and how?
I'm asking this mainly out of curiosity and not because I dont have ideas of my own:)

things i do when i arrive to a new map:
1) cry in a corner of my rec a little (rec crew: wtf?)
2) build a constructor, then to order to follow me
3) scout myself the area sorrounding my base (not too far, dont like early encounters much)
3.5) while scouting i still keep building 2 scavs to begin with early scrap collection ASAP
4) eat some cake

I scout and try to make a defensive posture. With the CCA, it's easy to do. Also, sending a fighter/scout to hunt in order to scout.

hmm. cuz I never build scavs close to my base unless I see scrap right there. otherwise i bring the scavs with me and the con. cuz its always riskier to collect the scrap thats far away, so i always like to get it first.

My procedures for landing on an unknown region
1) use the CPSLK Satellite recon, look for any distinctive centers or craters of the map, reminiscent of meteor impacts that put scrap near the center
2) if that fails start scouting, avoiding certain obstacles to stay out of harms way
3) every scrap pile counts, drop a nav beacon there, helpful if the map is annoyingly sparse on scrap
4) make sure that constructor following you... you did have a constructor following didn't you? build a silo near a field
5) If you are really unsure, leave the area and return to 'personally recon' landscapes
6) eat sandviches

I broke protocal... On "The Compass". Never played the map in my life. I cried when Sk was knocking on my doorstep. Plus Scavs kept getting stuck on terrain. BTW, I did look at the maps posted on the forum before the battle. I'm kinda cartographically-impaired...

I'm asking this mainly out of curiosity and not because I dont have ideas of my own:) There are 10 good strat maps + 10 not so good that are being played, so it is not too hard to memorize where the scrap is on each. Scrap position is not changeable and BZ maps are generally small, so why not doing a recon while alone on the map? For those who are lazy, HAL made this - http://www.battlezone1.org/map-layouts-t871.html
