Hey guys, as you can probably see i just registered. I dont really have an issue at this point but i have some useful information. Im runnung windows 7 64bit and originally the game ran just fine in compatibility mode after i screwed around with the .dlls. Actually, i downloaded 1.4 initially off of pirate bay and i never could get it to run but the 1998 installer i got off of this site was great! However, the game crashed at one point and i had to hard reboot my system. Afterwards i got the issue with the funny colors that im sure you are familiar with. I tried reinstalling and messing with the config but nothing helped. So i tried downloading another installer, 1.5, and, sure enough, the graphics look fine again. Hope this is useful, love the site!

1.5b is a beta installer, for testing purposes only (for now it leads to an empty lobby). BZ98 is 1.4 installer that everybody uses. Keep 1.5, but reinstall BZ98. Be sure to set resolution to 800x600 or higher, when in full screen. You probably crashed due wrong resolution (640x480 is for window mode only if not using Win XP), then got "funny colors" cause you restarted it in a software mode.

Hey sorry for the delayed response I installed 98 and im getting some issues. My radar looks a little messed up but its usable, the minigun causes the textures below it to flash white, when i target something the mini screen in the corner has a green tint(this may be intentional) and my sound effects/voices arent working(they didnt work on 1.5 either but they worked on 1.5 on my laptop). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I too seem to be getting some "funny colors". They only appear in fullscreen mode (not the test window), and seem to be resolution independent. Running the latest installer (not 1.5 beta). I am running software accelerated mode (3D card disabled?), as the game crashes when this is turned on (crashing at startup). Running Win 7 Pro x64, with windows XP (SP3) compatibility mode. Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 4890
Off topic: is there planned to enable resolutions higher than 1280x1024? Also, is there planned to make the resolution changes apply to the menu as well? I've never looked into the code, but I imagine making resolutions apply to the menu should not be too hard, as most of it is made of images which can be stretched. It won't make the menu look better, but it'll make it easier to navigate, as the mouse sensitivity will be consistent.

This can be answered by Ken in the 1.5 area, located here: http://www.battlezone1.org/ken-miller-s-1-5-patch-f23.html. 1.5 will have hundreds of improvements and fixes. Keep in mind that BZ was released in 1998

Is there a way to make RO appear in a test window since it doesn't have the configure utility? I took a screenshot but its all black and stuff which is not what I'm seeing. When Im in the game all the colors are ok except there's green and red on the tank textures and some of the cliffs kinda like whats in this screenshot.

I know this is quite old, but I have an idea for a fix for the "funny colors" (for anyone who still has this problem; though I don't know if it will work, I can't test it, I have an integrated graphics card - 1.4 works fine for me). So, for anyone that has tried playing Starcraft 1 on windows 7 / Vista, the colors also get very "funny", correct? I did some searching, and found out why - the desktop (windows Aero) for those os' messes with the game's coloring (something about different rendering and stuff). To fix that, I found out that you can create a batch file to run the game: Code: taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe C:\"Program Files (x86)"\Starcraft\Starcraft.exe
start c:\windows\explorer.exe
When I run the game via that .bat file, the colors are normal! Maybe this will work with 1.4? 1.5 should be fine. So, to try with Battlezone: Code: taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe C:\"Program Files (x86)"\(Battlezone 1.4 folder here)\(Battlezone 1.4 file name).exe
start c:\windows\explorer.exe
It basically gets rid of your desktop (but you get to play Battlezone! Good tradeoff in my opinion) Starts up Battlezone (I believe you may be able to still use command line options... put "-win" or whatever after the .exe And upon exit of the Battlezone, restarts explorer (your desktop) Oh! You would put all that in Notepad, and then save it as "bz.bat" or something. Then put that file in your bz folder, and make a shortcut to it on your desktop. Thats what I did for Starcraft at least. EDIT: Let me know if it works, I'm curious.

Just now, I ran BZ in software mode and got funny colors. I tried setting desktop colors to 16 bit. No effect. I pressed Alt+tab which minimized the game and then I brought the game back up and the funny colors were gone. Now I can't seem to make funny colors happen again. Try ALT TAB! It just might work. It worked for me on Windows XP 32 bit.
