Well it seems I either am not quite grasping the resolutions and using them right OR the 1.4 game is a bit defunct.
I have a Netgear N300 WRT2000 series router. I tried following the provided instructions on the tech support page to no avail. I still can't join games. I click launch, it goes to a loading screen like in single player and then just turns black. No idea what is going on.
Second, when I try to launch RO, it says unhandled exception and promptly crashes. I can play the regular BZ just perfectly, albeit I HAVE to run it in windowed mode or it crashes loading full screen. (Fixed that issue, just need someone that is good at networking to help me get into multiplayer games)
Any help would be appreciated. I will add my messengers to my profile, either reply here or IM me through messengers.
System specs: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit AMD Phenom X4 945 AMD HD Raedon 5750 8GB DDR3 RAM Router: Netgear N300 WRT2000 Kaspersky Internet Security 2011

With Win7 and Radeon card you won't be able to play BZ1.4 or RO multiplayer in full screen while having 3D card on. Exception is single player launched directly (over configuration utility or over mission shortcuts). Since software mode looks like crap on Win7 (it's decent on XP), your only option is window mode, but that will give you too much FPS which makes the game pretty unplayable. That's why BZ1.5 is being made... For router issues follow instructions on this page. If I was you, I would start with DMZ right away.

Problem is. I tried following those steps, and I still can't get past 90% of the time the chat box with a bunch of dots going across it. I can get into the initial multiplayer load screen with the larger chat box showing the two rooms, Eagle's Nest and Olympus Mons, but once I press join game and get into the next room, I can press launch all I want and most of the time it does nothing. Occasionally I get a splash screen loader like in single player and then it goes black and simply does nothing.
I'm not a network guru and don't even know if my router has an option for DMZ. I've gotten single player to work great, I just want to get into multiplayer.

Don't bother pressing launch until it shows the other players, when the loading dots end. Did you look around in your router settings for the DMZ option?

Ah ha! Never dug that deep into my router. I see a check box for default DMZ server with 4 boxes for IP address......now what?

Correct me if I am wrong (I haven't worked with routers) but it sounds to me that you can put up to 4 computers in DMZ. Open the command prompt and type 'ipconfig' and press enter. Your IP address should appear to be something like 192.168.0.1. Put that IP into the first DMZ box and make sure to check "apply" or any relevant check boxes to ensure that DMZ is set. Now try multiplayer BZ again. At the time of this writing, there is an unjoinable game in BZ because the original host left and the game is old. I can host a game for you to test joining if you want. Edit: That game ended. Come to the lobby and let's test it.

So did you enter that IP in DMZ yet? Let's get this over with.

Nope, didn't work I don't think. Just a few seconds after getting in that room with you, it kicked me saying connection to game was lost. I can create a game, but I dunno if anyone can join. We'll have to try again when I get home from work tonight around 7PM PDT

If you come to the lobby and see 100 loss on anyone, don't even bother hosting or joining games. You won't be able to do it. 100 loss in 99% cases means that you have router issues. That 1% would mean that someone else in the lobby has router issues.
DMZ is your best chance, but you have to do it right. You found it in your router settings and you found your internal IP. That should be enough.
