The other day, I wound up getting beat down by Tesla, but I think the thing that did me in was having to stop in order to issue build commands. I pretty much was in a bind and couldn't build anything since he kept the pressure on be pretty consistently and stopping would mean my ship getting destroyed.

So, if you were in a issue that required you to keep on dogfighting, how do you get around this issue? Maybe your keyboard doesn't give you this type of problem?

I also would like a answer to this problem, as it plauges me constantly when playing online.

I firmly believe that stopping in order to issue commands is what brings my demise almost every time.

Just practice, guys.
You'll learn how to better manage your resources and prepare so that you aren't caught unaware with no setup. You'll also get a feel for the controls. Just play and have fun. Don't get too down if you get beat.

There is an alternate way to issue commands in strat, although you can't fire while doing it, you can still move.

While holding down Left Shift, you can issue commands with vertical mouse movement and clicking.

It's slower than just quickly hitting keys, but you won't be caught holding still if you do it right.

I actually don't use it because I can let go of WASD and issue a command quickly, then continue moving.

Another thing, if a majority of your strategy games are YOU doing all the fighting, you need to re-evaluate your strategy and have the AI fight for you more.

Even if you have to play BZ campaigns to learn the most effective way to use AI units, I suggest you do it.

Here's a challenge for you: Beat all the Mars missions without firing a single shot yourself.

Tanks and Scouts are best when issued the FOLLOW command and you don't get too far ahead of them.

Bombers are quite good when issued the HUNT command. Bring 3 bombers near a base and tell them to hunt while you have 3 tanks following you and you follow behind your bombers. The bombers should do some damage, maybe even destroy a few things, get destroyed, leaving you and your tanks to finish the job.

Get creative, start experimenting, and have what some call "the dumb AI" do the work. :P
