There is an alternate way to issue commands in strat, although you can't fire while doing it, you can still move.
While holding down Left Shift, you can issue commands with vertical mouse movement and clicking.
It's slower than just quickly hitting keys, but you won't be caught holding still if you do it right.
I actually don't use it because I can let go of WASD and issue a command quickly, then continue moving.
Another thing, if a majority of your strategy games are YOU doing all the fighting, you need to re-evaluate your strategy and have the AI fight for you more.
Even if you have to play BZ campaigns to learn the most effective way to use AI units, I suggest you do it.
Here's a challenge for you: Beat all the Mars missions
without firing a single shot yourself.
Tanks and Scouts are best when issued the FOLLOW command and you don't get too far ahead of them.
Bombers are quite good when issued the HUNT command. Bring 3 bombers near a base and tell them to hunt while you have 3 tanks following you and you follow behind your bombers. The bombers should do some damage, maybe even destroy a few things, get destroyed, leaving you and your tanks to finish the job.
Get creative, start experimenting, and have what some call "the dumb AI" do the work.
