since i have no idea how far i will have to dig in the fourm to find out how to make custom ships and buildings. i though i post this when i am at my libary and look it up when i come home. but my question is how do you make them and what format does the 3d model have to be in

WILL NO ONE ANSWER MY QUESTION!!!! i looked thorugh the fourm and i cant find anything on it. i have so 3d models i just need to convert them. BUT WILL SOME ONE POST A TUTORIAL or a reply... that would be nice

I can at least give an answer, though the answer is "I don't really know". I'd have somewhat more helpful information if you were asking the same question about BZ2, but I was never sure how it was done on BZ1. You guys know a lot more about it than I do.

Maybe I should have been "General Error" instead, since that was my name in BZ before I was Sporkinator and it's an alias I still use from time to time.  All is good now. I guess I got confused because of the typo.  In the future, do a quick spell-check of your post before hitting "Submit". Sometimes "Preview" helps more than you might expect.
