...or 1.1 or something, whatever my CD version back from 1998 is.

Anyhow, I'm trying to import this BD Grizzly model from 1.4L to 1.0. Actually, I'm not exactly sure if it's 1.0, could also be 1.1. I'm sure it's a version prior to 1.3, though. However, for sake of convenience, I'll refer it to as 1.0 from now on. The model has all 6 thrusters and the improved round cannon barrel. The reason I want to do this is because I prefer the improvements over the illogical square "barrel" and lack of thruster flames model, which I have by default in 1.0. On a side-note, my stock Grizzly and Czar already are improved, so there's no need to alter them.

Now, I used UNZFS to obtain the necessary files, but when I move the bvtank.vdf, .geo, .odf and so on to the addon folder, it causes my game to crash (Unhandled Exception error) whenever a BD Grizzly is supposed to appear on a mission. Either during the mission itself or during the loading. So far, I've also been unable to locate the cockpit file(s) for the BD Grizzly. If anyone knows the names of it, please tell them to me.

What I'd like to know is how to get the model succesfully working as a replacement for the 1.0 BD Grizzly, in the same manner as it works in 1.4L, and whether or not the fact that I haven't been able to locate the BD Grizzly cockpit file(s), not to mention move it to the right place (addon, AFAIK) has any effect on this.

Cheers in advance.

Hello again Spock.

It's good to know that you are a lot more friendly on these forums. :)

And I greatly appreciate you posting the custom model. It works fine in 1.0. However, now my game tends to crash after I exit the mission, but that might not be related and even if it is, it's of no real concern.

Just curious, do you happen to know whether Activision made this modified BD Grizzly, or was it DX? Or someone else?

Hehe Fulmen, I consider myself generally friendly person (I could be wrong though :)). I just couldn't stand your continious 1.4L promotion, wrong render advices and, in the end, the insults. I guess that's behind us now...

Yeah, your crash can be due many things, considering you use 1.0. This is a shoot in the dark, but if you crash after pressing ESC while in the game, turn off Z-Buffer in render. That should fix it.

Modified BD Grizzly was made by Dx, he gave me the files personally (I have the same thing for Grizzly). I was using L only for a short while so I never really noticed the difference. Beside thrusters, I think there's something different about the wings too.

Maybe someone else can make "nicer" models... I always hated the thing how reaper (Dx) forced everybody to use his models with 1.4L.

Funny thing is that after your YouTube comment, for the first time I heard ppl talking about these models. When I already have custom sniper scopes as an option in BZ 98 installer, I decided to add these custom tank models in the next version, as an option of course. :)

I see. AFAIK my suggested render.cfgs only have 1 downside, and that is the disappearing reticle when under fire. But aside from that they work just fine for me and others from what I know of.

Could be. Though it didn't start until I put DX's BD Grizzly into the addon. I also put it into TRO's addon, works fine there. But like I said, it's no big deal.

Alright, thanks for the confirmation about DX being behind the updated BD Grizzly. I've actually taken screenshots of both Activision's BD Grizzly and DX's BD Grizzly for comparison purposes, and there didn't really seem to be any difference in the wings. But I'm not 100% sure.

What models exactly has DX "updated" in 1.4L, besides the BD Grizzly (and the fixed Grizzly) and the messed up Czar cockpit? Could you name a few?

Hehe. I also get that a lot. Something comes up one day and then the next day I come across people talking about that very thing.

Anyhow, that option would be very nice IMO. Apparently a lot of people still have square/rectangle "barrels" for their Grizzly and Czar cockpits on their CDs, so it'd be nice for people to finally see that Activision actually updated them already back in 1998. Just to give an example, those guys making BZC weren't even aware of the Czar having a round barrel made by Activision. In fact, the creator of that mod thought I had "...mostly experienced Dx's version", and then proceeded to rant about how he hates "his" version so much (which, ironically, was made by Activision, not DX). Of course I understand that by now most people who have played with the older cockpits (which seem to come in a large variety, for some weird reason) for all these years won't accept the "new" updated cockpits, but it's still a very excellent option. Please include it. :)

I'm sure you know who I am on YouTube, BigJGames/SporkinatorBZ

You complained that I had the old "square" cockpit detail from 1.0 instead of the round one. I did that on purpose. It makes more sense to me than the round one and matches the BD Grizzly's cockpit appearance. I've been testing it for months and haven't had any problems with it crashing the game more often, or causing graphics glitches. When I play BZ, I don't even use cockpit detail most of the time, because I can't see as well, even with simple round cockpit. I only turn on cockpit detail in my single player videos because I think it looks better with it on. It also throws my aim off a tiny bit. Maybe you haven't noticed, but when cockpit detail is ON and you steer a vehicle left or right, the aiming reticle deviates from the horizontal center of the screen, but with it off, the reticle always remains in the horizontal center of the screen, where it needs to be when I play VS human players online. My aim isn't so important in single player, because it's easy, and AI does most attacking anyway as well as it does in online strategy. But in online strategy, I many times need to use my own firepower to boost the overall strength of my force.

Oh, this is off topic maybe, but I made a custom Icon for Battlezone 1998:

You might not want it though, since it might be seen as comparing the stock game to the L mod, which is a bad comparison, because 1998 installer is better than 1.4L mod. :)

OK guys, you lost me... "updated models, fixed, messed up cocpit... bd grizz, grizz, czar... round barrel, square... bzc, 1.0..."

BZ 1.4L is a mod/installer without changelog so who knows what's changed in it. You should have seen BZ 1.4K... it had different skins for all ships and different weapons on certain maps... it was more of a hacked mod than installer...

Soon after L was released, I realized how crappy it is, so I made M (although I didn't release it right away) and never really bothered to find all differences between stock and L. When I say stock, I mean 1.4, not 1.0 or some other version. 1.4 is the last official release, so I don't care what was in 1.0.

All I know about different models in L and stock is BD Grizz I posted and Grizz I'm posting now (Dx gave me both files but I'm sure you can extract them from L zfs's easily). I know nothing about different Czar cockpit.

In my installers (M, N, O and 98) only broken/wrong/incomplete things are replaced and every change is listed. There are some custom options for useful stuff like lower volume MAG sound (not completely different like in L) and custom scopes (cause some ppl find it hard to aim with a dot, and all real snipers have crosshairs).

Option for the custom models in the next version will be an exception, cause there's nothing wrong with the stock models (Why would 4 engine flames be better than 2? Are 8 better than 4?), but since few asked for it, why not include it?

So I need something else than just custom Bdog Grizz and Grizz models? Czar?

Thanks Spork, but everything is fine with the stock BZ icon.

Czar cockpit seems to be changed by Large Assets being ON or OFF, although I never noticed until Fulmen mentioned something about Czar cockpit.

With LA OFF:

With LA ON, part of the cannon disappears:

Strange...

I don't think there's anything you can do to force it to always look like one or the other independent of LA ON/OFF.
