Hi people, as you can see I´m new here, and I just wanted to post(since the forum asked me after not checking my email for 3 days)
We all know this game is awesome, but I just want to tell you how much this game got me:
First of all, note I´m Spanish.Since there´s a Spanish version of the game here, you must know how game industry makes fools out of us regularly by not translating anything, but just demos
I got the battlezone demo on an old micromania cd, and I played the s*** out of it.The game was awesome!I couldn´t wait to get it, but I was a kid and lived in a little village in the south to where not much stuff was shipped, so I had to enjoy what I got instead of whinning about what I didn´t.But I never forgot battlezone.
I didn´t get the game gifted to me, neither did I found it to buy it anywhere, but as I said, I had to shrug and enjoy what I got.
I grew old enough to get my own computer, and I learned about abandonware laws, so I remembered this game(although I had forgot the name) and started to search for it.A lot.
Three days ago I finally found it, and I jumped and screamed in joy like a little child

why do I tell you this?Because I have Windows 7(x64) and it doesn´t f*** WORK!
thanks for allowing me to join your forum, hope I can find a solution :P

Welcome to Battlezone comrade!

There is the tech support section where you can get help trying to play Battlezone 1.4, as long as you post details about your system specifications. What video card, how much RAM, etc.

In addition, there is the nearly-finished 1.5 beta version of the game, try that out as well. :)

You cannot run BZ 1.4 in full screen with Win7 64 bit + ATI combo. You'll have to use window mode. The exception to that rule is any mission launched directly with a shortcut or via configuration utility, but of course that is single player only.

You also have over 3 GB of RAM. See this.

Well, there is a small workaround for that, if you set Battlezone to run in window mode, and then set Windows to run it in 640x480 resolution you'll get a full screen BZ (640x480 res only). The only flaw is that sometimes the start bar gets in the way of for example the Join Game button.

That doesn't really count in my opinion because the game still won't be able to vsync. You're better off setting your desktop resolution to 1024x768 or 800x600 if you simply need the window to appear bigger. I just now tried "Run in 640x480" in compatibility and starting in window mode, and the game wouldn't render. I could move and jump, but no graphics showed up, so I was blind. :P

Why would anyone play in window mode with 3d off, when it works with 3d too? And why would anyone playing with 3d off play in window mode and/or mess with windows resolution, when it works in full screen and any windows resolution?

How exactly did you fail? What's the message you are getting?

"bzone.exe stopped working" using either the direct exe or the configuration utility
I checked the "try in window mode" in configuration utility,is that the right way to use window mode?
I also configured both to work in compatibility (XP SP2) and Admin mode

That error message should appear when trying to run BZ in full screen mode. And yes, "in window mode" is the right way to start the game in win mode. You must be doing something wrong. Can you post a screen shot of your config utility (how it looks when you are trying to run BZ in win mode)?

EDIT: jus tried lowering visibility to 50 & skipping intro.same error message
EDIT2:added last checkbox, the one with the mission list, to the mix.same error message

Of course... Who told you to uncheck all or to experiment, especially when default would have worked? Set it like the FAQ (on this forum) says and everything will work fine.

Print screen works, you just have to paste it into Paint. Alternative is Snipping Tool (default in win7), which is capable of doing both.

I believe this is the default configuration:

When you then click "Start", BZ should start in window mode just fine.
