Battlezone 1

Someone heard about our problems and decided to give us a clean Bz server, with no banning of fair players, with no hacked BzE rooms, with no changing of default room, with no kicking players from the lobby etc.

He/she wants to stay anonymous, so you can't express your direct gratitude, but whatever you say here it will be read

Server's name is "battlezone1.net" and it's associated with http://www.battlezone1.net webpage. For now it offers only status page and downloads section (only new servers.dat in it ATM). In the near future it will host new Bz installer and other useful Bz things... This forum will move there too... We'll make a whole new site dedicated to Bz...

Server reboots every day at 11am GMT0 (3am MST), so keep that in mind when being on the server around that time. To be able to see it, download the latest servers.dat, unzip it and put it in your main Bz folder, overwriting old one.

During summer time reboot time is changed to 10am GMT0 (2am MST).

battlezone1.net is the new server for playing Battlezone, and bz1.com is just another silly server set up by Genx.

After posting this, I have NO SERVERS AT ALL.

What is going on?

XANA, replace servers.dat while Bz is not running.

Spork, no need for conspiracy theories just cause your dial-up had issues for a while.

Firestorm (and Spork), name of the new server is battlezone1.net, like it says in the title and in my initial post. There were few experimental names, while the server was not public. Add new servers.dat again and you will see it right.

To all, Genx put 2 new servers up (he has 4 now) just to mess with us. He will now be making fake players to make you believe someone is actually there. There is not. He's calling you over to hack you, cause he's afraid of what might happen to him if he starts hacking on battlezone1.net.

Don't go on any of 4 Genx's servers (and on Eddy's 911), even if you see "players" there, and you'll be alright. battlezone1.net server is the way to go.

First day went good:


3 games were played on 911, 0 on Genx's server's.

glad you all know how to do this and are not as computer illiterate as myself.

When i clicked on that link to download the new server it said " do you want to save this file or find a program online to open"

I have clicked save and saved it in a folder then tried to open it with any battlezone file, I have went through all of them and cannot open it.

I clicked on " find a program online to open it but I have no idea what I am looking for when it takes me here http://shell.windows.com/fileassoc/0409 ... sp?EXT=dat

any help will be appreciated.

Sorry for not being clear enough... after you have saved it, don't open it, just copy-paste (or cut-paste) the whole file in your main Bz folder. On my comp that would be - C:\Program Files\Bz 1.4O\Battlezone.

XANA, do it again, you must have done something wrong. When you know that you don't have to open it, it's easy thing to do. You can even save it directly to your main Bz folder.

It appears that all of the hackers have now just followed us to our server..

I saw BFT last night. In a Rocket Tank. Being a clown as usual. On OUR SERVER.

One thing to say though.
With all this arguing going on and the amount of people with multip[le names, how do you know folk are not bulls***ting you to get someone else banned?

no matter where or who or what is serving online you will get hackers.
Was this new server suppose to stop hacking?

correct me of I am wrong but if you ban someone you would ban their id meaing they could rejoin under a new id? so to combat this you have to ban an i.p address that more than one person in that area would be using so you end up or could end up banning an innocent gamer that has done nothing wrong?
I know the chances of two people using the same i.p is very slim chances but still could happen.


or am i wrong?

I posted in the new Servers.dat and only the UK server comes up on my list as new, the 911 and battlezone federation are still there, no battlezone.net

Well, I think the only ban that's available to the server is an IP range ban, and you are right about if an IP range is blocked, you can wind up blocking more than the intended person. Being a server admin for the current set-up of battlezone can't be a enjoyable experience when having to deal with that.

Xana, did you try outright deleting the server.dat then adding a new one in? It's how I had to deal with editing the render.cfg in my new laptop. Make the edit on the desktop (which you probably can just save your new servers.dat to the desktop ) delete the old servers.dat than drag the new one in your folder. That should get around Vista's C: clampdown. Plus you can be sure your new servers.dat is the one in the folder.

Also Spock, can the new installer have a customizable folder destination? I don't think Vista has my partition on lock down as hard as the C:, and it'd be easier than having to redirect all those shortcuts and such.

Guess my help was really not needed, oh well. Whatever. I don't think I'd be inclined to help as much at the moment considering all the rampant hacking.

Well, seeing as a new server is actually up, I guess I can leave this place. BZ is fun, but I can't get used to the physics very well, as I'm a veteran of BZ2. I've tried BZ a few times, but I can't get used to it at all. Plus, the unit management is just.. ugh... for strats anyway. I don't even want to try multiplayer because I really don't feel like being called a hacker or anything and someone whining and kicking me for no reason.

Hey firestorm, what version of vista are you running?
First thing you should do is disable UAC. Run -> msconfig and under Tools choose Disable UAC and run it.
Also try this (if you have admin access) Run -> control userpasswords2
Select your account and make it a power user.
