Glad I found this place.
I was a BZ fanatic back in the day when it first came out. Had a Pentium2 with a 6gb hd, 32 mb ram and a whopping 4mb of video ram.
That was 1999, and BZ played great on that machine, which was close to top of the line then.
Fast forward 13 years, and I'm back at it again. I still have the original box and CD, but in the past when I tried to install it on newer machines, I always had problems and gave up.
Finally have it running pretty good, and have the joystick set up almost how I remember having it 13 years ago.

Some of my battles back then were so intense that I still remember some of them, absolutely epic. The graphics still look great, and the game play is like nothing else, before or since.
I am on the 3rd mission, gonna take my time with this and enjoy.
Any mods/patches I should consider putting on this game ?

You are running Battlezone 1.0 (from the CD) on a PC? I highly suggest downloading the latest 1.5 patch at this link: http://www.battlezone1.net/patch/ BZ is awesome, but with the arrival of 1.5 it just got awesomer! :D

No, though I still have the original, I am playing a dl'ed copy of apparently version 1.4

One thing I remember from way back when is there was a practice setup ... Not the practice scenarios.
You could attack a base, practice all your tactics ect.
No time limits, no goals or objectives.
I even remember taking over a huge walker and walking back to base with it. Can't seem to find that stage, I could use it to brush up on control tactics, anyone know ?

Are you possibly thinking of Playground? If so, go to mission archives under training missions.

Ah, the playground.
For some reason, all the missions were blacked out until I clicked them

Yeah that happens to quite a few people in 1.4, I think it's been fixed in the 1.5 patch. You should definately download the 1.5 patch as no one ever goes on 1.4 now.

And I guess welcome back old timer!
:)

I'll do that, unlikely I'll ever be good enough to compete against any of you guys tho.
Glad there are people still playing and supporting this all time classic game.

You could be surprised.

Even if you lose, strategy games can still be great fun. Find the right people to play against and it really shows how good Battlezone really is - and the 1.5 patch just adds to that! Just keep playing and stay active and you'll get better and better.

This game will never be deleted from my HD - If I learned anything the 1st go round, is that it has high replayable value.
The terrain and atmosphere are so surreal that often, I like to just glide around, if not pressed to do other things.
I'll hopefully play against another player here in the near future ,,, So I'll get my clock cleaned, I'll survive. Only other game I have ever played online is DOW Dark Crusade, one of the best RTS ever.
