I came up with this idea as I was falling asleep in my math class this morning.

Why don't we make an official Battlezone Youtube channel for Battlezone videos? I know some of you already do, but these will be aimed more towards attracting players.

Each video will include:

1. Good music (something everyone would accept to), and not as a complete voice over.
2. Multiple game recordings (3 different maps per video, edited with a focus on action scenes from 3 perspectives (two/three opponents, and someone there to only record)
3. Recruitment ads with voice overs (comical, or WWII style...I guess there can be a GOLEM style too  ) to support the idea that this is a war-style game, but not with your simple point and shoot idea.
4. The possibility of the competing players talking to each other via TeamSpeak (come on, most of you do this anyways in Counter-Strike/PSN/XBOX Live).

GOAL
Advertise BZ in a better way than it was to the RTS/FPS community.

TIME
Each video will be about 3-5 minutes long. Or, however long is seen as suitable.

REPRESENTATION
A lot of people are probably unsure about this type of strategy-game, with it being FPS style. They might view base building and managing units as a rigorous activity from this view. We need to show how simple it really is and that it's just a new way of playing a, oh let's say...a Red Alert game. They need to see the good parts, not just a tank hovering around making weird noises with a menu.

UNIT SHOW OFF
Each unit should be represented and how it is used. Also show how the unit can be manipulated easily (placing a prox-mine for enemy APC troops, ramming a CCA walker off a cliff, Day-Wrecker/weapons from armory etc)

WEAPON SHOW OFF
Showing off weapons and what they can be used for is a great way to show that the weapons in this game are not very alike. A good example is the thumper: Show what happens from all perspectives (first person, opposing unit, and recorder view) when someone is struck by one.

PARTICIPATION
We would need people to [strictly] record the match, and two or three other opponents fighting. This can be anyone, and it would be a planned event (or if someone agrees to you recording a match, that is fine too)

EDITING TEAM
We would have a team of people that edit the videos. This team would need to have good contact with one another (AIM, Yahoo, MSN etc) while doing this, so if your panties shrivel up at the thought of having a fellow BZ-er on your IM list you shouldn't bother being on this team. Each person will have their specific role in editing and should assist one another in this process. Any help is good help.

 Thoughts? Ideas? Hooking me up with your sister? Anyone?

This is a pretty good idea, I'd be willing to support it.

I'm not so sure about Sony Vegas, but I use Windows Movie Maker, there shouldn't be a problem.

Fraps is good, you can also use VirtualDub. Whichever rocks your fancy, but we'd need to make sure the recording dimensions are the same so we don't get any weird results.

As far as the editing goes, there are MANY options available. Try Source Forge to see what they have listed. I personally don't have much experience with movie editing, but I can catch on quickly.

If you really wanna start setting all this up and how everything is going to work out, send me a PM and I'll send you my IM information. Just remember this is NOT going to be a "slap it all together" video...Activision did this and it didn't work so well

Correct. The recording is going to be an area all its own, they must show the instances where someone in-game would go "yea, that just happened" (like 2 ppl going head on towards each other, and one person jumping and doing a forward flip while still shooting...then destroying the opponent  ) and would make someone watching the video go "whoa."

I'm doing a rough sketch of the "episodes" and what should be involved in them. I think I should be getting ready for a little tournament instead, though

Sweet.

Just wanted to mention something, everyone has to have the same set frame rate when we record.

Well, there's no other way of putting it but, yesh. If you have 4 gigs of ram like me and you set your FPS to 60, it records at 60 if thats what your asking.
