You need to set up a static internal IP on your PC and then forward UDP/TCP ports 21000-22000 to it. 1. Viewing IP info of your PC start - run - cmd - ipconfig /all IP Address.......... Subnet Mask....... Default Gateway.. DNS Servers........ 2. Setting internal static IP for your PC control panel - network and internet connections - network connections wireless network connection/local area connection Properties - Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) - Properties Use the following IP addrress (enter info from Command prompt) Use the following DNS server address (enter info from Command prompt) 3. Forwarding Ports on Siemens Gigaset SX763 WAN dsl (might look a bit different on some other router) internet explorer - 192.168.1.1 advanced settings - internet - address translation (nat) - port forwarding Protocol (TCP & UDP) Public & Local port (21000-22000) Local IP address (the one from Command Prompt) Comment (I.E. BZ) Enabled (check) Add - OK The point is; you have to set static IP for your PC and then forward BZ ports to it in the router. When I join server I get random port from 21-22k range and static IP that I set is 192.168.1.200. You'll set some other static IP (ipconfig/all in command prompt) and you'll might have to add additional range of ports, cause some get other ports, like 49000-51000 ( Wireshark is good for checking that). Here's how that looks like in my router's port forwarding settings: Attachment:

Alternative is to set DMZ and like that open all ports. It's a security risk so do it only as a test to see if your issue is in ports or in the router not liking BZ: Attachment:

How to use WiresharkOf course, first install it. Go in "Options" and under "Interface" select your Network Adapter. Also uncheck "Capture packets in promiscuous mode". Press "Start". Under "Filter" type "UDP" and press "Apply". After a few seconds press "Stop". 21157 is always the Server's port, while other port in the same line (assigned to IP something like 192.168.1.250) is current yours. system specs:
windows vista 32 bit 1.86 ghz duo core processor 3gb RAM built-in intel graphics card
running BZ with the 1998 installer in hardware mode with 1024-768 resolution, z-buffer off. i am attempting to wirelessly use a netgear router
im rather new to dealing with router issues so please forgive any ignorance within this question.
i am now at my partents house for the Christmas break and therefore not using the internet routers up at college(which worked perfectly fine with BZ). i know that my father has a rather strong firewall on the home router, and ever since i have been on this router i receive an unhandled exception upon attempting to join a game. the previous topic on that issue did not help me.
i asked my dad about it today and he said that if i could give him the port on my computer that the BZ server is trying to connect to, he could change our firewall settings so that traffic would be allowed through.
so, is it possible to get the # of that port?
thank you very much

Here's simple port forwarding program that will do everything for you in 7 easy steps. simpleportforwardingWhen doing step #4 you will have to add Battlezone manually (custom) and assign ports 21000-22000.

I am having issues with joining a MP game or people joining one that I have created. I can get into the chat area, but not into games. I have had the same luck with the 1.4 and 1.5 patch (1.5 is what I am trying to work with now), so I am guessing routing somehow. -I run a webserver, mail server, FTP, and telnet server from my home servers as well, so forwarding traffic for a game shouldn't be anything more complicated. My Desktop PC is running Windows 7 32bit. Windows firewall is disabled. I use a Checkpoint Z100G firewall at my home and have a business class static IP service. I have forwarded UDP and TCP ports 20000-22000 to my desktop PC. I am showing nothing being blocked in the firewall logs and show that UDP ports specified for BZ are allowed to flow: The service object for the rules shown above: Here is a sample of my firewall log showing that traffic is allowed to pass: I am sure I may be over-troubleshooting and missing something right in front of me. I'll take any help I can get.

Looks like you use 39000-40000 ports, while others use 21000-22000. You will have to do some more forwarding or set dmz.

I have a feeling a consumer router like a linksys, wouldn't give such an issue, as I believe from looking at the logs that BZ is responding to other NAT connections with the NAT IP included with the connection. If you look at the log below it will show my PC running BZ with the IP 192.168.10.4 and the destination using a different NAT IP 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.251. BZ should not be responding to these IP's, but the outside IP of destination connection. This looks very similar to a problem many people running SFTP servers have when their SFTP server is behind a router and the connecting clients are not using a PASV mode.

EVERY TIME I DISCONNECT WHICH IS AT LEAST EVERY HALF AN HOUR MOST THE TIME, MY DMZ GETS DISABLED AND I CANT TURN IT BACK ON, IF I TRY RE-SET DMZ THE INTERNET DIES AND I HAVE TO RE SET THE MODEM SETTINGS TO DEFAULT WITH A VERY THIN SHARP OBJECT AND SET UP THE ENTIRE WIRELESS NETWORK AGAIN WHICH I DON'T EVEN USE. I HAVE TO WAIT FOR LIKE 10 HOURS OR LONGER NOW, WHEN BEFORE IT ONLY TOOK 15 MINES TO SET UP DMZ AGAIN. WHAT PORTS CAN I FORWARD TO FIX THIS 100 LOSS s*** INSTEAD OF THE DMZ WHICH DOESN'T EVEN WORK ANYMORE?! THIS HAS BEEN PISSING ME OFF FOR OVER A YEAR AND ITS WORSE THAN EVER BEFORE NOW. I HAVE NO GOD DAMN INTERNET MOST THE TIME ANYWAY BECAUSE OF THIS PIECE OF DOG CRAP BREAKING IT!!! MY ONLY OPTION IS PORT FORWARDING COS I CANT PUT UP WITH THIS CHAOS ANY MORE

Get a new router or something. Port forwarding and DMZ both didn't work on the first router my ISP rented me, so I had them switch it for one that was already proven to work.
