Battlezone 1

Hey, its my first on this post on this forum, so first off, hi!
I spend most of my time over at BZU- I just discovered this site, and I have to say, THANK YOU. THANK YOU ESPECIALLY FOR BZ1998. I could drone on about how great it is etc, but I just have to say that it was a brilliant help in getting my BZ back. I'm glad to have found a succinct home for BZ which offers it reliably.

In just recently getting ol' Battlezone and Battlezone II running on my new Vista x64 rig (how, you ask? P.M. me), I downloaded the most recent 1.3PB for BZ2. The one with the high-rez BZ2 Icon. It was so pretty on my new giant-icon desktop that I was inspired to bring Battlezone 1 (and BZ2 mods) high-resolution icons of their own.

SO. Without further adieu:

The link goes to a .zip containing the following as high resolution icons (.ico files):
-Replica of the original Battlezone 1 icon
-Replica of the original Red Odyssey icon
-Mimic of the original Battlezone CD style in icon form
-Mimic of the Battlezone: Gold Pack CD style in icon form
-All new Battlezone 1 icon (featuring Battlezone title text)
-All new Battlezone 1 icon (featuring Battlezone title text and a grizzly tank)
-Alternate high res Battlezone Control Panel (one of my favorite utilities) icon, based off of the replica of the original Battlezone icon.
-Battlezone 2 recycler icon
-BZ2CP Forgotten Enemies constructor icon replica.
-All new Fleshstorm icon (featuring swarm unit, can't remember which evolution)

-Black Dog Omega Squadron icon (for my as-yet unannounced 13 mission IA campaign following scion-to-be blackdogs for BZ1- just did the icon, figured to include it )

To use any of the icons in a shortcut extract the .zip file to the folder of your choosing, create a desktop shortcut to the battlezone (or other?) you wish to play, right click>properties>change icon>(browse for and select icon file of your choice).

I'm not very much a pro at filehosting, so if the link doesn't work, the host is a hassle to deal with, the .zip is corrupt, or the icons don't work, just go ahead and scream at me please . I haven't tested them on anything but my x64 bit 1900x1200 res vista large icon size desktop. (Some of the icons may *appear* to be corrupt in some image viewing programs due to certain methods of pgn compression- try loading the icon to a shortcut, if that fails, it is corrupt.)
If you're looking for a reliable free .zip archiver (.zip opener!), I recommend jZip (which I used to make the zip... I suppose I'll discover how reliable it really is...)

If anybody want's to redistribute any of these icons in any way, you are absolutely free to do so.

Finally, I'm in something of an icon-y mood, so if you have an image you would like to be made into an icon, or a request/idea for an icon that would make your Bzone shortcuts a little more fun, post it please, I'll go ahead an make a high-res icon for you.

Hi. I'm glad you like the site and I'm especially glad you like BZ98 installer.

We are all trying not to talk about BZU anymore (there are enough topics about them already, like BZU and Coffee), but since you already mentioned it, I'll have to respond with a few words... No wonder you didn't discover this site earlier, when BZU censored our parent site - http://www.battlezone1.net. It is just a matter of time when will something similar happen to its child site, this forum. BZU is pretending to be a BZ1&2 site, when in fact it is only a BZ2 mod forum, with poor BZ1 section (when you remove copies of Ken's posts from this site and dozens of I-hate-Spock topics, there's nothing left there).

They also call BZ98 installer illegal, while allowing distribution of other outdated BZ1 installers (from 2006), not made by me. I guess there's no need to tell you that I'm banned from that site, but what you probably don't know is that ALL BZ1 players who tired to post there are banned too. Those few posters in BZ1 section over there are not BZ1 players. They are BZ2 players who never played BZ1 or BZE players (yes, all 3 of them ) who hate BZ1 more than they hate what they see in a mirror.

With that being said, I'm sure you will understand our 10x stronger response to their unacceptable actions against the real BZ1 community.

Now let's get back to BZ1 talk, the icons talk... Any ideas for 1.5 installer icon?

I had an idea for beta icons as Ken releases experimental builds:

Ken could compile 1.5 builds with different icon and/or the beta installer itself could use a beta icon with what build it contains.

I like it. What do people think about using the original icon replica (the black and green one) in the pack as the base for a 1.5 icon with "1.5 Beta" (or equivalent text) in the font from the in-game build menus?

Those look fine, I wouldn't spend too much time on the 1.5 beta icons because...well, they'll be replaced when 1.5 is released

What about some snazzy official 1.5 icons? Like Hi-res NSDF and CCA logos to choose from?
