Ok sure, well I would be happy to be the organizer if everyone is fine with that.

I went on 1.4 earlier and just looking at the maps made me remember how good they were. I think the final map should be a 1.4 map to give maybe a bit of a nostalgic feeling? And also because the map probably owns if its out of 1.4.

I was just thinking, would there be a way to have a sort of spectator mode? Being able to watch a strat while flicking between players and such in a sort of ghost cam would be awesome. I can easily set it so that the entire lobby could join the game lobby itself but obviously we all wouldn't be able to launch and also other players might launch and interrupt gameplay.

This idea would probably be too big but there could be some sort of ship you could launch with that acted as a camera or something. Have it so that its invisible, flies fast, AI can't see it or recognise it and make it so that no recycler launches with it?

But then we have the player limit with the spawn points. This idea just spirals out of hand and becomes far too difficult to make happen very quickly .

The only solution, which has of course been used for years, is for one player to record it and then upload it later for everyone to watch.

Which leads me onto the possibility of streaming? I have never live streamed and I don't know what website to set it up on or whatever but if it was possible it would be a pretty cool idea.

This then raises the issue that having a screen recorder up and running causes lag. The finalists would rather their opponent record than them because they don't want the lag disadvantage.

I think most maps we'll get are out of 1.4.

Not possible unless someone goes and modify the game a lot. It's really too hard to pull off correctly, so I'd say no to this one.

AI always attacks enemy units, only way would be to make the spectator launch neutral, which is impossible as far as I know.

It does spirals out of hand, I think the streaming would be a more feasible option.

To stream correctly, you first of all need a program that can record the game, Fraps is out of the question because no internet connection is able to stream almost 300MB/sec videos without making the game unplayable. There are a few screen capturing programs that compress while recording and are even free (Atube catcher). We still have to deal with the fps issue though, maybe have the players post their system specs here and have the player with the fastest pc record (only if he wants to). We should have to see how it goes, at least we will have tons of screenshots and warstories, so the real question is if we really need video.

This is not mapmaking or modding thread, you are supposed to talk about strat tournament here. We have 1604 members and counting... you can't all be that incompetent, can you?

In addition, I agree with Mr. Spock, strat tournament isn't for modding. The spectator thing is really too hard to pull off, we should have either screenshots/warstories or videos.

I spectated a few games in the old tournament. I joined in a Ram or Lander and had both players ally with me and I allied with both of them. I then climbed to high ground where AI can't go and I stayed out of the way and watched. Being a spectator is simple, but you kind of have to stay off the playing field. :P If your computer is not powerful enough to take video, just take screenshots with a program like IrfanView or Fraps. We're probably better off without the spectator hassle. I had fun watching though. :)

A tourney sounds like a lot of fun. I'll most likely get eliminated in the first round.... but as in golf, you don't have to be good at Battlezone to have fun. I played alot in the late 90's when it first came out, but only "rediscovered" BZ a few months ago. But I've learned quite a bit from everyone' stutorials here and playing you guys.

I only now discovered a few tidbits that makes stratting more enjoyable, such as having the constructor follow close to speed it on its way rather than just giving a direction to build, and the advantages of building outposts (learned that one the hard way). So I guess one can be an old timer and a noob at the same time.....

Since we are going to follow the rules of previous years I suggest playing the same maps too.

Mr. Spock wrote:
All games have to be played on stock maps. I suggest Theater, Moon, Corners, Citadels and Compass.
Code:
Theater o' Pain 400 scrap 4 players max
Z Neo-Halofexx 420 scrap 4 players max
Blast Chamber 524 scrap 4 players max
Canyon Madness 560 scrap 4 players max
Paranoia 560 scrap 4 players max
Moon 360 scrap 3 players max
Par 3 380 scrap 3 players max
Battle By The Sea 420 scrap 3 players max
Ice Ice Baby 480 scrap 3 players max
Purgatory 300 scrap 2 players max
Z Snowed In 320 scrap 2 players max
Corner Pocket 400 scrap 2 players max
Citadels 440 scrap 2 players max
The Compass 480 scrap 2 players max
Big Venus Map 500 scrap 2 players max

All games need to have next settings:
Code:
Sync Join - ON
Comm Sat - ON
Barracks - ON
Sniper - ON
Player Lives - 3

Personally I miss The Compass on the list found in the sign up thread. Since it's a 2 player tourney it should be a given.

Just my thought.

The Compass is a map that is included in the map list. It will be a possible map for players to decide to play on.

Quote:
Battle By The Sea.
Big Venus Map.
Blast Chamber.
Canyon Madness.
Citadels.
Corner Pocket.
Ice Ice Baby.
Moon.
Par 3.
Paranoia.
Purgatory.
The Compass.
Theater O' Pain.
Z Neo-Halofexx.
Z Snowed In.

Also, can we please move tournament discussion to the sign ups topic?
