I have played a lot of games in my life. I have watched a lot of movies in my life too!! Some movies were off of games and some games were from some movies. Games to movies are usually pretty good. Movies to games though... we'll... you be the judge.
I thought that a good movie would be Battlezone: The Real Space Race or Battlezone: Cold War in Space. That would be a cool movie if you ask me.
But what do you think?

Just think of it. The whole story line of bz in a movie. Done by some good actors. In ships looking for bio-metal, the NSDF fight against the CCA. The NSDF find alien relics, and the CCA make furies. And just as when the CCA missions in the game end, in the movie that is when they lose control of the furies and seek help from the NSDF. Then the movie continues with the rest of the NSDF missions from Titan on till the end of the game.
I think it could be done. If it was made I would be the first to watch it. But it is just me. Most people may not like it or they may not even know what battlezone is.
Cool idea!!!

I agree with you Mastercheif. A Battlezone Movie would be cool to do . Though, the only thing I could think of is a series of the SP missions of Battlezone.

I always daydreamed about this when I was little. It would be nice to make that daydream come true.

Now are we talking Hollywood production, or just any sort of movie, kinda like Red vs Blue without all the funny stuff?

Well, hollywood just isn't gonna happen unless we have famous people here at the forums. Most likely we're gonna have to do the filming ourselves. Most likely upload it to YouTube. I've seen people there upload entire machinimas from the games they play. I think it would plausible that we would be able to do the same. Such a movie would also bring quite a bit of promotion to Bz. The only thing needing a real discussion is the subject of the movie. I mean, SP missions would be the easy route. Though it would most likely be a very long movie. Perhaps we could set up our own plot. Recording would be rather simple. I know that Spock, Spork, Tesla-Trooper, GOLEM, and I have recording software(fraps). The question is, who will be the camera guy. Also up for discussion, will this film be mainly Multiplayer, or of only Single Player. We will also need to know if the cameraman is going to be in the film as a first person shot. Or is he not gonna be in the film at all, with him filming the scenes in a 3rd person style. In all, we're gonna have a lot to discuss.

I've seen a few of the Halo Red VS Blue clips. Those are actually relatively creative and funny. I personally think it would be cool if a Battlezone-based film or series were 3D animated, a bit like Pixar's animated movies. But for that we would probably need professional 3D animators. As for the plot, making your own might be a good idea. I thought it would be interesting to combine the basic plot of BZ's single player missions along with The Black Dog Squadron and Chinese Army from TRO. The NSDF and the Black Dogs would most definitely be allies (they're both American), and the Chinese could be at war with the Soviets like they are in The Red Odyssey, and the Americans at War with both the Soviets and the Chinese, a 3-way war. Then of course, you have the Furies. The Americans, Soviets, and Chinese eventually all become allies to take out the Furies before they unleash their wrath on Earth! Perhaps you could have stuff happening in the movie that never happens in the game, like the Chinese sharing their cloaking technology with the other protagonists, and warping through Portals to "confuse" the Furies.

I'm totally with you HyperFighter, would be great and awesome to the max, also daydreamed a lot about it in the past and even still now. Though I everyone would probably have a pretty different idea of how the game should be visualized To bad Battlezone offers so few possibilities for making machinimas. Ofcourse we could do such a thing in Battlezone 1 but the production quality we'd end with would be quite disappointing I think. If only Bz was built upon a platform that had fertile foundation for machinimas I bet there would be a lot of very creative and interesting films being created, because when you think of it the whole Battlezone setting/storyline offers a lot of inspiration for fan art I think. Kind of surprises me that there is so little fan art complementing Battlezone while I rather expected the opposite. I mean, Bz has a quite fanatic community right? And fan art really doesn't always need to be amateurish and cheesy. There have recently been made some great examples of fan art that reached a surprising high level of production quality and some very interesting styles in my opinion. (take Red vs. Blue for example which has kinda became a cultural stereotype) Litfuse Films also made some fan made films on the Source engine (a lot of them based on the Half-Life setting/universe that perhaps some here are familiar with) that have became really popular with quite professional directing and a huge attention to detail and soundtracks. The biggest problem with games covered with a film is often that they are poorly executed or take their own spin on the games style or dump a lot of important elements that defined the game. I do think this 8 min Halo movie prototype is quite impressive though (although it is also probably pretty devious of the original Halo, haven't played it). Has some of big minds in movie world working on the project (Alex Garland, Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro). This first installment of a series of shorts that covers the fights and life of some resistance fighters in the Half-Life 2 universe while Freeman wrecks havoc in the distance is also a quite impressive piece of fan work imo. Would be awesome if Battlezone were ever to be translated into such kind of films, and it certainly wouldn't necessarily been done by Hollywood.

Ah... so it can be done! Now all we need is a plot. Some good cameramen, recording software, about 1 ton of doughnuts, and a set. Multplayer, Single Player, or a combination of both. That is the question

Multiplayer definitely, we can construct whatever maps or resources we want or need plus we wouldn't be forced to the constraints of a single player mission objectives and behavior, we can control everything ourselves. Once I get this game running, I'd like to volunteer to man a camera. Well, if I can get the thing working (almost there . I'd like to suggest that the camera men be able to record in Harware Mode, simply because the graphics are so much better and smoother. I'm not sure what'd work as a plot at the moment.

Wasn't Masterchief talking about the real movie, with the real (alive) actors?
Battlezone is well known for its great story line and with the right director, Battlezone: The Movie should be equally good. It's a great idea and I'm surprized no one made it happen by now. Maybe they tried but the legal issues torn between Activision and Atari stopped them. The same issues that are blocking the creation of BZ3.
I still remember the feeling I had 11 years ago, when I was passing single player missions for the first time, the feeling that makes you wanna see ASAP what will happen in the next mission. It is something I havnen't seen in any game before or after, and I doubt I ever will.
Battlezone is like an old wine or an old movie. It gets better as the years pass by, cause (most) new games (movies) don't have that something... the soul.

I'm reminded of a Mechwarrior Hollywood movie project, that wound up biting the dust also. The thing was looking pretty nice, but I think that was around the time that Microscum was trying to push their playerbase to the X-box and pulled the plug when it didn't happen. ><*
I have to agree with Spock, back then, you could afford to have alot of creativity instead of having to worry about business models and doing only what sells. Yuck.

The single player campaign in Battlezone is truly an epic story. It seems to me that most Sci-Fi stories are set in the future, but Battlezone is certainly set in the past.
