Yeah, I know, it sounds kinda silly with knowing how old tournaments looked like... Kahless, a newbie stratter, keeps bragging how he was second on one of those, which clearly shows what kind of players participated there.

I plan something different... a real tournament, with the best active BZ stratters. There are 7 active pros in BZ ATM, so there should be at least 4 of them on the tourney, to be valid. If not, there will be no tourney. :( I see no reason in pro refusing to participate, beside inactivity or in my mistake by wrongly putting him on the pro list in the first place. 4 other players would join them through the qualification. Then the main tournament with 8 players should start.

I have all rules and other information prepared, but more about that later. First I wanna hear do we have 4 willing pros and who else is interested...

Please, only serious stratters should apply. If you are not a serious stratter there will be another tourney for you - Casual Team Strat Tournament. Everybody can participate there. Only requirement is to read about silo and ally, before applying.

If you are not a member of this forum but you want to participate that's ok too. Just ask someone who's already registered to apply you.

Who's in?

Edit1:
Strat tournament 2009 participants are:
Code:
GROUP A
HyperFighter
valak
HAL 9000
Jazz
FURION
Mr. Spock

GROUP B
Fly
Snowcone
furykiller
F-16 Fighting Falcon

Due previous strat achievements, Group A goes directly to the main tournament. Players from Group B will fight among each other on the pre-tournament and 2 best placed will qualify for the main tournament.

All games have to be played on stock maps. I suggest Theater, Moon, Corners, Citadels and Compass.
Code:
Theater o' Pain 400 scrap 4 players max
Z Neo-Halofexx 420 scrap 4 players max
Blast Chamber 524 scrap 4 players max
Canyon Madness 560 scrap 4 players max
Paranoia 560 scrap 4 players max
Moon 360 scrap 3 players max
Par 3 380 scrap 3 players max
Battle By The Sea 420 scrap 3 players max
Ice Ice Baby 480 scrap 3 players max
Purgatory 300 scrap 2 players max
Z Snowed In 320 scrap 2 players max
Corner Pocket 400 scrap 2 players max
Citadels 440 scrap 2 players max
The Compass 480 scrap 2 players max
Big Venus Map 500 scrap 2 players max

All games need to have next settings:
Code:
Sync Join - ON
Comm Sat - ON
Barracks - ON
Sniper - ON
Player Lives - 3

Rules:
By default, there are no rules, but if you like, 2 who play can agree on let's say "no splinters" rule, but that should also mean "no Bdog Grizzly" either.

While still in the groups, you have to play 2 games with each opponent. 1st time you pick map, 2nd time opponent picks. Table will be formed and 2 best placed from group B will join group A on the main tournament (group C will be formed). There same group rules will apply, with 1 little difference - 4 best placed qualify for the Play-Off. 1st goes on 4th, 2nd on 3rd. Defeated players will fight for the 3rd place, winners for the title. In play off, best out of 3 games wins. When 3 games are played, first to pick map is the one who was better in the group stage.

If 2 or more players share the same place (same number of wins), 2nd thing to look is their mutual matches. 3rd thing to look is points they got against players who got through. If they are still the same additional game(s) will be played.

Tournament starts on 11/23 (today) and it ends on 12/23 (day before Christmas Eve cause some might be out of town during holidays). Since we are limited with time and we live in different time zones both groups can start fighting today, no need to wait for group C to be formed.

Results and the table will be posted here and I will update it daily. Your duty is to report a loss as soon as it happens. I also expect screenshots and videos from both sides.

If you don't trust your opponent, you should play with a referee. He must be someone both players agree on, or 2 referees (1 for each) if they can't agree. Referee decides if the game was regular or not. If you play with a referee, he should host.

You have to pick 1 name for the tourney and say it to your opponent before the game. You can't use alias then reveal real name only if you win.

If something happens during the game (connection loss, urgent call...) 2 players should decide what to do depending on how situation on the battlefield looked like. Someone's loss or a match reply. If they can't agree, referee will rule out.

If you refuse to play someone, and 51% of the participants decide that you were given enough time to show up and take the challenge, that will be registered as your loss. You have a month period so there should be no excuses...

If you don't understand something or you don't agree with something feel free to talk about it here.

Have fun and good luck! 8)

Edit2:
I forgot to say something; you should try to play your matches on a 2 players maps as much as possible. 3 and 4 players maps should only be used for the games with a referee(s). But even then you should play smaller maps with less scrap, like Theater and Moon (which are actually exceptions cause they are basically for 2 players).

You shouldn't presume that when you are free to play, others in your group will be free too. Those with limited BZ time should first deal with those in 6+ time zone.

Edit3:
QUALIFICATION (over)
Code:
Fly (Sweden, GMT+1) - 6 - 6
---
furykiller (USA, GMT-5) - 5 - 2
F-16 (Germany, GMT+1) - 3 - 1
Snowcone (USA, GMT-5) - 4 - 0

Furykiller - F16
F16 - Fly
F16 - Fly
Snowcone - Fly
Furykiller - Fly
Furykiller - Fly
Snowcone - Furykiller
Snowcone - Furykiller
Snowcone - Fly

Edit4:
As you know, I made a special group for this tournament, called "stratters". You should use PM-to-the-group feature when trying to find a tourney game.

How to use it?
Enter your Control Panel. Click on "Compose message", select group "stratters" and click on "Add (To)". Now enter PM subject and the text like you would normally do. When you click on "Send" you will send it to all stratters in that group (HAL 9000, Mr. Spock, valak, FURION, FLY, Jazz, HyperFighter).

What to send?
Info like: "I will be online Thursday evening from 5-7pm GMT+1. Anybody up for a game?" :P

Please, use GMT cause that's the only thing everybody understands. Europe doesn't have US Eastern time but America does have GMT-6. :)

im serious about playing strat if thats defined by only going online to play strat and learning from the pros and not being a noob or a DMer

Furykiller, I played you few times, you are definitely a game. :) When I said only serious stratters should apply, I meant I don't want posts like this.

Besides, you can participate in both tournaments, just hurry to find your teammate before someone else gets it.

I use aliases most of the time. :P

Your Team strat partner can be anyone who does homework I gave in the first post. Make a deal in the lobby, then apply for the Team Strat Tournament by posting 2 names here.

Furykiller, I played you, you are pretty good. I had to beat you without my recycler which admittedly was poorly defended, you flanked me and destroyed it. Your only complaint was "I suck at DM" and I said "Nah, you're fine".

That was a good game indeed. :)

4 applications and only 2 days to go. Seems we won't have a tournament after all. :(

In case you were wondering, tourney was supposed to last few weeks, not few days, so everybody would be able to play needed amount of games. That's why I named it ST 2009, not ST November.

The difficulty is, I have school at the moment, and "commie" parents, so the night strats I get are on Fridays, my only loophole is if holiday comes soon.
