If you don't know which ship to choose, pick Grizzly, Czar or a Bdog. You know those ships well from single player.

Press M to see pings of other players in the game. You always have to give lead when shooting. How big, it depends on how fast opponent is moving, his ping and how fast is your bullet. Blast requires less lead than SP stabber, higher ping requires more lead.

Press T to target opponent's ship. When shooting, shoot in moving diamond, not directly in ship.

Never shoot when in straight E-W line from a distance greater than 38m cause you won't be able to hit (game bug).

Change your keys (input.map & gamekey.map) to something that suits you. I personaly use "R" for linking weapons instead "L" and "Q" for dropping navs instead "P".

Learn your weapons; speed, range, recharge, ammo. if you have SP/AT combo, don't shoot both when the distance is 180m and waste ammo.

Learn position of powerups and their spawning time. Knowing things like that Coli map has only 1 repair in the middle with spawning time 15secs and that AT cannon is located on the top west with spawning time 45secs will help you greatly.

When ejected, switch to sniper mode and try to hit someone on the ground with 3 shots you got. You also have to give a little lead, but you don't have to worry about bullet speed cause sniper hits instant.

If your pilot is facing another pilot or a ship with pilot in, use jump snipe. Aim, jump, then while in the air quickly press both mouse buttons in the same time, then right mouse once again before you fall down.

P.S. This is silly subject so feel free to contribute. :P

Hehe... DM can be great fun when you're between strat games, or you don't have much time to play, or you want some shooting practice to help improve your chances in strat. Those who DM for hours and say "strat takes too long" don't know what they're talking about. But that's a different subject.

What I'd like to contribute (or at least start) is a detailed guide for sniping. Recently I saw a few new guys crying "snipe hack" when they got sniped. I'm also guilty of crying about hacks in the past when all was legit. Battlezone1.net is a moderated server, so don't jump to conclusions. There's more to sniping than meets the eye. (Pun Intended)

Scope Sniping
This is relatively straightforward, but could do with a bit of an explanation and plenty of practice. You switch to your sniper scope and try to line up the center of your crosshairs with the glowing dot on the vehicle or pilot. That's just half of what you need to do for moving targets. The other half is reflexes; pulling the trigger at just the right moment. It's best to give a little bit of lead, not because of bullet speed, but because of reflexes. Once you have your target lined up, there can be a slight delay between you deciding to take the shot and your finger actually pressing the trigger. Sometimes it can be helpful to aim at the right edge of the dot when the target is moving right, and left edge when target is moving left. In multiplayer it can also depend on ping times. Let's not forget that there isn't just left and right movement, there's forward and backward movement as well as up and down movement. Sniping is a 3 dimensional challenge.

Air Sniping
Once you know how to scope snipe, air sniping is basically the same thing, but without the scope to aid you. After you are ejected from your vehicle, you have 3 shots to potentially surprise your opponents with. What helps a lot with this is knowing the approximate location of the dot for every unit in the game. If you are within 200m of an enemy unit, you can target them. Switch to your sniper rifle, and the target lead diamond is a good place to aim. Certain factors can skew your aim and cause you to miss when air sniping:

1. Position of pilot's gun.

When you are on foot, you'll notice that as you walk, the pilot's rifle moves a bit side to side. If you walk forward while firing plasma, you'll notice aim isn't very steady. Keep this in mind, it also affects sniper aim. If you are ejected from your tank, and you hit the side of a wall, your air snipe aim will likely be skewed. However, if you manage to switch to sniper rifle before hitting the wall, you'll get your scope up in the air! This allows you to aim accurately while in the air. Stand still on flat ground as a pilot. That position is the most accurate aim. Performing a hop in the middle of walking will freeze your animation. So for best accuracy when hop sniping, it's actually best to stand still for a short moment before hopping, then press the jump key, switch to snipe, aim and fire and switch back to plasma before you land. If you press H to hop out of your vehicle for an air snipe, your pilot will already be aiming correctly.

2. Auto Leveling

When Auto Leveling is ON, your aim may be skewed a bit depending on your pilot's tilt. Press W, A, S, and D in the air. W and S tilt you forward and backward, A and D tilt you left and right. Your aim will be the most accurate when you let got of those keys and let you pilot stand up straight (in the air). If you are standing on sloped ground, scope aim won't match the normal reticle. If you play with auto leveling off, you don't have to worry about how you are tilted in the air, it won't affect how much scope matches normal reticle.

Ground Shot No Scope
If you're tricky, you can switch to snipe on the ground without jumping and take a shot before scope comes up. While walking or standing, press both left and right mouse button simultaneously. If you do it right, you will snipe them before your scope comes up. This is actually pretty difficult to pull off, and in my opinion is more of a novelty move.

Feel free to comment, criticize, or add to this sniping guide.

Emergency Sniping

There are moments where you just can't target the opponents sniper dot, so you have to use what I call 'Emergency Sniping'

Example: your ship is moments from exploding, and you jump out of it at the last second. Your opponent is gonna have you dead before you have a chance to get a decent target.
Key: You have to 'anticipate' where the pilot of the ship is gonna be. For example, a tank pilot is usually near/below the tank's gun, so you can predict where the pilot is and point your shot in the right direction. CCA bombers have their pilot near the right of the main body of the bomber. Fighters and Stolis have the 'window' of where the pilot should generally be.

I usually succeed in 1 out of every 3 emergency snipes, but it is handy in a pinch, and it has won me many games in the past, both strat and DM(though you never truly win in DM :P )
