Do you think Avatar just forgot about explaining the mission objective correctly? I suspect he consciously tried to piss off as many as possible :)

Surprised you completed in first attempt. The first attack after you got the Rec to geyser is different from game to game though. Sometimes you don't even get the time to get to a geyser and then your done.

I used Thoiwalk a lot to test out different ways of attacking and stuff long ago. The AI pilots can snipe so you should keep moving. I think it was the turret pilots only that snipe. The turrets also move around quite intelligent and keep repositioning.
Different attack units follow scavs which makes up for some good battles.
The howies seem to attract more enemy activity. Sortof the same as the NSDF fury stock missions where furies seem to get pulled towards howies. Must be possible to program that into the mission in various ways somehow I guess.
Also when new scavs get build, some AI tanks that just stand there in the base seem to automaticly wake up and start to follow/guard these scavs.

May be a hell of a job to find out about and implement some of these details but would sure add that little extra to any IA map I think.

Anyway Thoiwalk should be a bit less dumb now that you got your revenge after all :)

Yes Jon, I finally got my revenge on the valley of the shadow of death! :twisted:

Although I completed it on first (real) attempt, I could have easily failed. I saw those vicious AI snipers shooting at me from air immediately after ejection. I kept moving, knowing they don't aim as well as human snipers. I had 2 of them aiming for me at once. Now THAT is scary. :shock: I had to play a lot of the mission with absolutely no AI support, as I hadn't located much scrap yet, but I had a hangar, supply, stolen BDog Grizzly, and a 2nd SP-Stabber from armory, and I was destroying units myself and zipping around the map building silos at every scrap field I could find, and constantly reloading. There's one place where Golems keep dropping down from the top of a mountain and killing my scavengers. I just kept rebuilding them and destroying the Golems. Once I had a few Gun Towers at my base, I would leave and pick fights with a few enemy tanks and lure them into my Gun Towers. Soon enough, the enemy scavengers were coming into my base to get scrap, and the AI attacks ceased. Strangely enough, when I moved my 10 howitzers into position, they were unopposed! Nothing came out to destroy them. I expected some resistance, because enemy AI killed my howitzers a lot in other IA missions. Perhaps I simply ran the enemy out of scrap and the AI was unable to fight? Not sure though, because once I reduced the base to just a recycler, it built a scavenger. I killed the scavenger and it built another, over and over a few times, then I just took out the recycler.

The mission definitely requires strategy skills as well good shooting. It was fun. By the way, I was playing on hard like I always do, so if you're used to beating missions on medium, try them on hard.

When I learn how to make IA maps, I want to know how to make the turrets do intelligent stuff and how to get scavs to have escorts. I also want to have the AI attack with APCs, and rebuild its factory when it gets destroyed! In all the missions I've played, the factory is never rebuilt, even though the recycler is still alive.

Yes, adding these elements will help making IA missions more alive I think. Btw I've seen recycler rebuilding factory in one of the CCA stock Titan missions. (pretty sure it was that one where you have to get the recycler out of the hands of NSDF)

Yeah, the AI rebuilds the Factory in that one campaign mission, but I've never seen an IA mission with rebuilding factory. Nor have I seen APC attacks except at the beginning of blast chamber IA mission for example.

I would also like the AI to command constructor to build Gun Towers, but something tells me that not everything is possible, otherwise somebody would have done it already.

Yeah, BZ Config 9000 has a map edit check box in the level selection screen. Maybe I should add a button to do the dirty work, actually creating the map file for the first time and make v2.5. :D Nobody likes using the "scary" command prompt. ;)

it's easy but what do you mean with "CRA"?
