I've been having troubles with my Internet lately, such as pinging the Battlezone server at 7000 with no downloads going, and nobody surfing or downloading on the 2nd computer. First, my ping rose to 1000. Then it proceeded to be over 2000... 3000... 4000... 5000... 6000, and finally my ping reached 7000. I kept troubleshooting the problem, but every solution I found was only temporary, or didn't work every time:

1. Reboot/Reconnect. Ping initially dropped, but soon soared again, with no correlation to anything else.
2. Disable BITS. This seemed to work once. The idea was to kill Windows Automatic Updates, which may have been part of the problem.

After running out of ideas as to why my ping was so huge, I grew suspicious of untoward internet activity. According to Dan Kegel's Master list of servers, there are a total of 5 Anet servers. I got the IPs of all the servers, and put all of them in my firewall except the Battlezone server, and my ping dropped. One or more of them had been packet flooding me intermittently for several days. Problem solved. Eddy was clearly using his private Anet server to hack me and slow down my connection. I refuse to blame Tug at this point, as I did not ban Tug's IP to stop the packeting, nor did I ban Dx. The packets came from Eddy's server.

Block these IPs in your firewall if you experience the same problem:
Code:
174.133.124.242,75.127.124.148,69.162.75.5,87.239.22.16

How nice of you to not blame me.

Blocking some one who is "packet flooding" you at your firewall will do you little good since the packets still travels through your internet connection.

May I suggest that you figure out which server is doing it and then ask the server owner to restart it. I'm sure the server owner has no idea that his server is misbehaving and would be interested in knowing that it is misbehaving.

Someone feeling guilty?

With the history of packeting people who didn't like BZE, on a long time abandoned 911 server, you are the usual suspect when something like this happens.

Today you must be smarter so you probably do it over 911 server this time, without exposing your real IP. Spork is an easy target because he's on dial-up. Contacting Eddy who is for sure involved won't do any good. He'll deny it, like he denies disconnection from the master server and the half of BZ community being banned from his clan server.

I was just trying to help out. I've never "packeted" anyone.

Regardless what you think, a denial of service attack should be stopped as close to the source as possible.

Spork

If you can access your modem interface, add those IP's to its firewall list. Some dial-up modems have this option, some do not. If you really wanna Ralph things up, set up a proxy.

Tug, you and the Team Dummy cronies have now cast quite a doubt on what legitimate lag is. I've had random spikes in games while playing on dial up, but now you make me wonder if you temporarily hacked me to disrupt a game on the Battlezone server, using my IP so that you wouldn't look bad. If you want to disrupt a game, use your own IP you yellow-bellied coward.

What gives moron? Despite everything we know about you and everything the BZ Community has told me about you (and it's all true), I tried to treat you reasonably, and this is how you repay me? You hack me so that I can't even kill time goofing off in a DM? And I thought I had no life... but you take the cake. You have nothing better to do than to hack and be a general disruption. I'm officially done treating you nice Tug. As far as I am concerned, you're toast.

What happened after that "point" and now that made you start blame me?
Me giving good advice?
Are you being serious?

Are you being serious? No, you're playing games...

Clearly I am too nice. You are first to reply. Sign of guilt and "relief" that I "didn't" blame you. I suspected you all along, I just said otherwise on purpose to see how you would reply. When you stop playing games with me, maybe I'll stop playing games with you. 8)

What advice? Oh! You mean deflecting the blame by telling me to contact the server owner and telling him to restart it? That's got to be the dumbest piece of "advice" I ever heard.

1. Eddy owns the server.
2. I do not have Eddy's email.
3. Eddy wouldn't listen to me even if I did.
4. Do servers typically flood connections on their own? Yeah right. battlezone1.net never did that. Perhaps Eddy hacked more parts of the server and a glitch occurred? Which is it? I got banned from Eddy's server. Then when I got unbanned, the high ping appeared. Coincidence? No.
6. My IP changes when I reconnect, and I was being packeted every time. The server would ping the whole range I was in? I then switched ranges and it temporarily solved it... but then I got packeted again once you got my new IP.
5. Restarting the server would be disruptive... oh I forgot, nobody plays there. That would work perfectly! :)
7. You, Dx, Eddy, and the rest of Team Dummy are all the same to me, so even if you "didn't do it" (what a joke), I realize now you should share the blame regardless. Until you separate yourself from Team Dummy and make public apology for working against BZ, hacking, and lying, you are scum and I will trample you.

I'm guilty if I reply, if I don't I'm being "affirmative silent".

Just find the one ip that does the "packeting" and post it here. I'm sure someone can contact the owner.

I'm done talking to you till you calm down. (And the silence is not affirmative)

Owner: Eddy
174.133.124.242 (Old Eddy's Server; decoy #1)
75.127.124.148 (New Eddy's Server; decoy #2)
Owner: Genx
87.239.22.16 (Genx's Server 1; decoy #3)
69.162.75.5 (Genx's Server 2; decoy #4)

Genx's servers just sit around wasting internet, it's more likely that it was Eddy's server(s).
