Hello, First of all, excuse my english - it is not my native language. I am from former USSR (CCA )) I am a big fan of BZ. I spent all '99 playing BZ. And after these years I wanted to play it again. But unfortunately, I could not join an any game (or create a game which others could join it). I read topics which Williamson and Shamrock created about the similar problem but all the sollutions I found there did not help me. 1. I do not have router at home. Only switch(hub) which has no address. And I can not edit any router settings in web-interface (I knew its IPAdddress using tracert) how it is described in Williamson's topic. I just do not have an access there. 2. I switch off Windows Firewall at all I can connect to the servers and I have good ping. I was told about it. But in game lobby I have 100% loss. And when I try to launch the game I catch unhandled exception. Also single player works fine. But I want multiplayer I have winxp+sp2

Another Russian! Hehe, you are 6th in BZ ATM. Windows firewall requires only bzone.exe to be on exceptions list. You can have FW on, if that's the case. I presume you don't have some 3rd party firewall or else you would mention it. Then few extra checks are needed... That Hub of yours connects to the Router/Firewall somewhere... and that firewall is blocking your connection to the other people in the lobby/games. You should call your cable company and explain them the situation. Only they can unblock needed application (bzone.exe). Or you have to change your Interent service provider (maybe you should threaten them with that). I'm sorry, but I don't see other solution for your problem...

My internet service provider said that they do not block any ports. What else can I ask them to do?
Or may be the problem is on my side?

Hello, comrade! I suggest speaking english because this thread may help our american friends to solve similar problems I used 1.4L, 1.4M installers. Also I installed BZ from the original CD and then manually patched it to 1.4 (including applying XP antilag patch and changing anims folder etc.). In all these cases I could play in single player and could not play in multiplayer

I'll try it but what is the difference? Did you experience the same difficulties?

I hadn't problems because once I found current bz pack. Anyways I tried multiple configurations: - direct connection - pc through router - laptop (with even vista) through wireless access point and extra router - laptop through wireless and pc as router
All these configs are operational.
That is why I suggest you bz pack, that is used by almost all in here. If it won't help - maybe your external router has limitations (as You said you have only switch. It means somewhere your cable is finally connected to the router). You should also discover if peer-to-peer allowed in your network.

BZ1.4L was made in '06, BZ1.4M in '08 and BZ98 in '09. I always suggest using the latest version cause it contains all current fixes and maps. When patching original disk you have to use these fixes - http://www.battlezone1.net/downloads/. Instructions what is what are in FAQ. "Antilag" patch is a fake name for few of those fixes in downloads section, ignore it. But I'm afraid nothing from above will help your 100 loss issue. Your ISP is not telling you everything... As Pycckuu said, BZ multiplayer functions like a Peer2Peer network. You need to have opened big range of ports (21000-22000 plus few more). Maybe your ISP isn't blocking any particular port, but they are probably not allowing you to have them all opened in the same time, and that is what BZ needs. Everyone is connected to a different port in said range, so to be able to see them all at once, or join them, you need those ports opened too, all at once. Are you connected with a wire or wireless? Wired connections are always better.

At last I have solved my problem!!! As I did not have outer IP address I could not join any game because other players did not have an access to me (into my local network). Now I switched IP address from inner to outer and all works well!
Thanks for help.

Great job in helping yourself. Can you just explain how you did the IP switch, for those who might run into the same problem in the future.

It is depend on Internet Service Provider. By default in my home network all users get inner IP address and for ones who wish provider could give an outer IP. So there is nothing unusual.

Hey guys, this is my first post. So far I have been unable to run BZ on vista, but I have been able to run RO windowed and software mode. On virtual pc I was able to run both perfectly in single player. The problem is that I cannot play in multiplayer. Sometimes the ping is gone and sometimes it won't create player. Sometimes I launch and get the UE before the game loads. My question for this thread is how you changed your ip from internal to external... like step by step instructions.
I used to play this game back when it first came out, and now my brother and I are trying to get it working on multiplayer for old time's sake.
