Hi,

I'm new here but I know the game since '98 when I try to lunch game (Demo!) on my old 486DX@ 66Mhz...From that day I really enjoy playing it. Now I just come back to BZ (Well to be true one year ago) due the BZ3 project.

(Sorry if this is not the right place for that. Fell fre to move it)
I see that original game programer is making upgrades in code - thats one side of game.
Now here cames the question: Is there someone or group of fans which they making upgrade to the visual part of the game? Like new (HD) models, textures?

Something like the Freespace 2 Upgrade project on HLP?
http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?board=120.0

Why I'm asking? Becouse if not then I volunteer for that job ;). I have some expirence with 3D modeling (For BZ3 and others mods for different games). Imagine what we can achive with improved engine like better lightining, specular etc. I will do some modeling stuff for the start in a few days and post it here. Some information will be needed (like limitations to the numbers of polygons for that engiine etc.)
What do you fans think?

I working now on the remake of original BZ barracks. Any suggestions? I have really hard time with the small details becouse... there is no concept or anything at all for that. Details are modeled as a seperated objects- is there will be problem with that ? (model is not for now created as a whole single object)
For the time being model have about 3000poly - details included.

Any ideas about details to add?

Hello,

Every now and then someone like you comes and starts talking about new BZ models. He hangs around here for a while, then disappears. If you go over old topics/posts, you'll see dozen of them.

The thing is that we don't really want new models and even if we did want them, and if you turn out to be a great modeler, you will never stay here long enough to make new model of every unit/building in the game. Yes, that's right; it's all or nothing.

3000 poly is way too much, FPS will dramatically drop. Most stock BZ objects are around 300-500.

Also I agree with Mr. Spock, I appreciate what you do but we saw dozens of these projects that never actually saw the light.
In my opinion objects in BZ should be just left stock, prove me wrong, however. :)

Yeah, it's all or nothing because the appearance of the game has to be consistent. Besides I see nothing wrong with the current models.

I would rather have nicer looking weapons, similar to the new bolt class

Well...in that case, I will back with all of them  . See this from my point of view: That's strange... old model where made look like they are now becouse of the hardware limitations (exp. NSDF pilot in game it is "cube dude" on some still renders it looks normal. Why? becouse round objects always have more poly). I plan this model pack to be very close to the oryginal models and If someone don't want them, it simply never install them. I understand that after about 12 years you will be a little sentimental and try to preserve old memorys from few happy moments...

I have real life job, studys etc so maybe I will disappear for a week or month sometimes - yes that's true - but Hey! it is a real life! It is important :)That's a free time job after all. After that short absence I will be back again and again, again...

I posted here becouse I want some help that is obvious - I don't want to repeat mistakes of my predecessors (like that black tank). After all you are experts in the BZ topic.

I don't think it will be that dramaticly. On todays graphic cards it will be no problem with about half of million poly on screen. Bz code maybe more restricted in that matter so let it be even a 80 000 for all new models. Now I have about 350 FPS in game with heavy fight on screen it is about 200 FPS. If it fall even to 40 FPS then it will be still enought price for the better visual part.

Treat that as a my point of view only. I don't want to force any of you to do this. I will do them alone but it will take me ages to do that ( eta 1 year max? worst case scenario...)

PS: I want to do all models weapons included.
PSS: I'dont think it will be that much players of BZ in future. They are naw very sensitive to the graphic part of game- unfortunatly...

expect most people are getting around 70- 80 fps in bz. Not everyone has a good graphics card. plus 350 fps is fpsing. alot actually getting close to nas trebas old speed.

No, I'm pretty sure most have 60 in 1.4, and who says he isn't talking about 1.5? :)
