Scavenger question

How, when piloting a Scav do I collect scrap?

I fly over it but it does not collect and I see no control nor can I target the scrap.

I'm thinking if they'll let you pilot a scav they should let you collect? No?

Hit "k" over a piece of scrap.

After you gather some scrap to put it in your stockpile press "k" while near a recycler/Scrap silo.
