Seems that few of you are having trouble understanding the server rules... I thought that no hacking is an obvious one, along with my constant lobby explanations, warnings and a few topics/posts about those who broke that rule.
To make this more clear, when I say "no hacking" I mean:
1. No game hacks. There will be no server bans on a hunch or on a hear-say, because hack lies are spread constantly by BZE supporters, mostly BFT. However, we won't tolerate Genx with a rave on a Coli, tank that can snipe or some other hack he used on a 911 server, when he was under Eddy's (aka Firbirgir) protection.
2. No lobby/server hacks with the hack tools reaper (aka Dx) is spreading. Some of the reasons we moved from 911 server were hacked server rooms and reaper's notorious lobby kick. Why'd you think that anything similar will be tolerated on a new moderated server?
3. No FPS abuse. Limit your in-game FPS at 60. Unlike in other games, in BZ anything above that is cheating. When your FPS is extremely over 60 it is as same as hacking. (Edit: This rule is obsolete in 1.5)
4. No firewall abuse. You are allowed to ban players you don't like, while sitting in the lobby or when hosting games. But having players banned when entering other games is not allowed. You can't ban someone just because you can't beat him, to achieve better score without him. Doing that is as same as hacking, cause it messes up the whole game. After all, FW cheating doesn't hurt banned player, it hurts all other innocent players in the game.
5. No connection abuse. Whether you increase your standard ping by "accident" (downloading) or on purpose (hacking), it's not allowed. Have 3rd party programs closed when playing BZ. Things like that ruin the game for everybody.
6. Instead writing 10 more points, let's just say that harming the game or the server in any way can bring nothing but the ban.

Rules edit: Some players (Team Dummy members) think that they can cheat when I'm not "looking", that banning certain players while in someone else's game is ok, and things like that...
Dummies, there's no difference if you cheat on me or on some noob. Cheating is cheating and cheater will be punished, whoever he is. Nobody is protected. Days when Danny, Genx and reaper were hacking only certain players on 911 server, while others were closing one eye, are over. There's no Eddy or BZE Club to protect them.

Recently, Dobermann bans me just because he can't hit me with a purple ball. I've never seen him do it as non-host, only as host, he even banned me mid-game and crashed a few games that way. Some people are just better off without a firewall for BZ... especially since we have battlezone1.net server now, where hackers/cheaters aren't protected by an evil admin.

Seems that troublemakers just wanna be troublemakers. Added new server rule: No connection abuse.
I'm not one of those who cries lag, I've played great strats vs New Zealand, with average ping of 500. There are also few dial-ups in the game and that's fine. But when some Frenchman, on broadband, suddenly goes from 100 to 350, I know what's the time.

I don't have time to write a book of laws, but that doesn't mean if some rule is not specific about something, that you can exploit its flaws. For example, everybody understands classic FW abusing, but now there's this silly Frenchman who turns FW on in his games, when you take the first spot on the scoreboard. Like that he throws you outta the game, by crashing it. Others then rejoin the game and the game goes on with the new score leader. So even though it is not classical FW abusing, it is still (FW) cheating for the score purposes. Not allowed. There are more examples of what are some doing and there will probably be even more in the future. Spare me the trouble of posting here again and again, and spare yourself of being banned. You are not paying for the Bz server so your only right is to play. Those who are paying for it, hold the right to exclude cheaters. Play fair and have fun!

just becuesse you (spock) got banned you dont have 2 force ppl 2 play on your server and ban them when they dont. Banning ppl in in such a small community is just "childish" and retarded. I can agree on thats its ok 2 ban ppl cuss they hack but not all the other reasons.

Who said anybody was forcing anybody to play anywhere or banning them for reasons other than breaking the server rules? Quote: Banning ppl in in such a small community is just "childish" and retarded. Yes, Eddy banned many off of his private server just because they didn't like BzE. Quote: I can agree on thats its ok 2 ban ppl cuss they hack but not all the other reasons. Then what are you complaining about?

I think the "catch all rule" could use some clarification: Quote: 6. Instead writing 10 more points, let's just say that harming the game or the server in any way can bring nothing but the ban.

Hi I am curious if there are any players I should avoid playing because of an imminent danger to the well being of my computer, or if all the hacking is remaining within the game and not branching into viruses and the like.

I doubt that hacking in Bz will lead to viruses on your computer, but if your looking for bz hackers to avoid, then take a look on the Wall of Shame.

I am not familiar with some concepts. What is a "ping"? Why is that having other programs opened may affect the game if you are not hosting the game? If it works with modem why should it affect downloading something if you have a faster connection?

Ping is a response time. The length of time, in milliseconds, that it takes to send a message to an Internet and receive a reply. You can see your ping to others by pressing "M" while in the game.
Host does set the bandwidth for the whole game, but since Bz is a peer 2 peer game, any player who joins can lower that bandwidth with his slow connection. If you have BZ98 installer then you have default broadband settings (stock game has dial up settings). When hosting a game with it, you set high bandwidth, but as soon as high pinger shows, your bandwidth lowers.
In theory, very fast connection, should allow you to do other stuff while playing Bz, but since most of us have average DSL/cable connections, without set priorities I.E. always leave 1Mb free for Bz, you can't control spikes caused by torrents and such bandwidth consuming programs.
Also, background programs don't only affect your Interent connection, they also affect your FPS drops, which causes a game lag, even if it happens only for a short time (like anti-virus scan or Windows updates).

My findings show fair to average playability even into mid 200s-low 300s of ping. BZ is resilient like that.
