Hello fellow Bz players.
This is my first visit to this homepage as I'am in dire need of help. I fell in love with this game about 12 years ago and suddently got the, "I-have-to-play-it-now"-feeling. But as I tried to run Bz on this laptop I experienced a couple of technical problems with Windows 7, which this forum helped me out with in minutes just by reading. But as I entered the game and thought - This is it!, I started getting these huge srambles and lag-effects in the sounds, whenever I turned towards specific objects. I'll try to explain below.

- These are images I happened to find in another thread, but they match the ones I would have shown anyway.
The first picture is from the cutscene in the first US mission as you might know :) I recieve minor scrambles whenever the picture moved around and the sound gets really laggy - Picture framerate is unaltered though.

The second picture shows the cutscene about 5 seconds later. Turning towards the moon-base causes disastorous ammounts of sound scrambles and lag, yet the framerate is not affected. But as soon as I turned the view away from the base, but still standing in it,as you see on the third picture - The sound is clear and the games runs smoothly without anything to hinder you from playing this beautiful game.

Please help a fellow Bz loving player if you can. I'am clueless as to what I can do about it and the sound means so much to me. I've tried updating my sound driver and changing stereo/mono and the sound channels between 1-8 without succes.
I'll post my spec if you think that it might help
Windows 7 x64 bit with 4,00 GB RAM, Graphic: Mobile Intel(R) 4 series express chipset family. CPU: Intel Celeron 2,2 GHz

Think I might as well bump this; no replies and this post was made in January?

I am having a similar thing to this; my sound lags when the game livens up such as when there is a fight, or if there is a lot of scrap and units about on the map. This is in 1.5 and 1.4. I used to have this glitch all the time, but since I started playing 1.5, it had stopped. A couple of days ago, I went on 1.4 for a minute and the sound lag there is horrific, it lags ALL the time and it's really bad. Now, this glitch has spread onto 1.5.

(RC10)

EDIT: Even if I end all programs apart from Battlezone, and close down all background processes apart from necessary windows ones, the lag/glitch is still present.

I tried BZ on an old Gateway laptop and it had horrible problems with sound especially when it had to play more than 1 at a time. If I linked AT-Stabber and Minigun and fired them, that was all it took for the sound to stutter horribly. I think the laptop's sound card might just be no good. I guess you already tried updating your sound drivers? That would be too easy. :)

Yup tried that, but it was already up to date.

Goomba suggested that I should try all 8 different sound channels from audio options within BZ. None of them made a difference apart from 2, which reduced the harshness of it a bit, but it's still an issue.

Spork, try putting that laptop on audio/sound channel 2 and see if you get the same thing that I'm getting.

I believe that "sound channels" setting simply limits how many sounds can play simultaneously. Most computers should easily handle the maximum setting, which is 8. Even really old computers, like my old PC that runs Windows 98 can handle 8 sound channels.

I can't test that old laptop right now because it's in storage. It was a computer that my aunt didn't want so I said I'd take a look at it. I'll probably donate it to a thrift shop later, it's not very useful to me without a built-in wireless card.
