[Windows XP Computer] <--crossover cable--> [Windows 7 Computer] --> [Internet]
What I experience is similar to SPI problem, but I already made sure Windows FW is off on both comps, and neither is running Sygate or any other firewall.
Only one of the computers can play BZ at a time. If I'm in game and other comp even enters the lobby, I lose connection to the server and all players, booting me from the game.
This next problem is probably the main issue causing the other: When Geppetto and I enter TCP/IP LAN, we can't see each other, though one of us may occasionally see a 2nd "Battlezone" room appear, we cannot join it, nor does the game merge us. I have both computers in the same workgroup, "MSHOME".
I had this same setup working perfectly between 2 XP comps, but now it's Windows 7 and XP.
Any ideas? Is there something I can do on Windows 7 computer, like disabling some security I don't know about? Let me know please, Gep's been wanting to join me in silly DM games, and strat me via LAN again like we did on 2 XP comps.

I set up a LAN between an XP PC and one with Windows7, I tested 2 games. warcraft3 I could not see the game that I had created on the other computer, it was the same with Battlezone. Do not know if it is kompitabel problems between xp and windows7. of course it worked on vista so why should it not work on Windows 7

Yeah, it's probably a compatibility issue between XP and Win7, there's no other reasonable explanation why it won't work... of course this TCP/IP LAN thing is new to me, I used IPX between 2 XP machines, because XP has IPX protocol. I'm assuming that TCP/IP LAN is normally a perfect replacement for IPX, and from the user's perspective, works exactly the same: 2 computers enter LAN and can talk to each other. My 2 computers are linked and sharing Internet but they hate each other and refuse to talk to each other.

I finally got the right driver for my modem, and now I have the following setup: [Windows 7 Computer] <--Ad-Hoc Network--> [Windows XP Computer] --> [Internet] Everything that didn't work before seems to work now. When networking between XP and Win7, Win7 is a bad host, and the XP machine should be the host. The XP machine connects to the Internet and has an Ad-Hoc Wireless Computer-to-Computer Network set up, which the Win7 machine connects to. Sweet freedom! Geppetto can finally take his laptop with him on the go without disabling my Internet. Finding the right Toshiba Modem Driver only took me forever.
