As we all know, painting a newly made map by hand can take hours and is a highly daunting task (at least for me). Can someone enlighten me on how to create a .ini file for this purpose? The mars, io, moon, venus and titan ini files do not work properly. Basically, can someone tell me how to tweak these files and make them paint more layers and in the appropriate areas? Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance. I think this is the only way to paint terrain fast. " You may paint terrain when you are done by going back to the Battlezone\addon directory and typing: maketrn usrmsnXX.trn /p="mars.ini" (if you are creating a map on Mars). Notice that you must specify the TRN file for your mission. The INI file for the planet matching your TRN file must be present in the addon directory. Don't forget the quotation marks. One thing I would like to mention here is that some INI files are already present in the addon folder, however some of these look more like developer files, and will not work correctly with maketrn - you will get error messages when you run it. Make sure you use the INI files from the edit\ini folder." -Pulled off the IA Mission Tutorial topic

Well I appreciate the responses. I recently found a "marstrn.ini" file which paints mars terrain satisfactorily. However, I have to say that Io is the hardest planet to paint. I have yet to figure out how to make a decent .ini file! What about BZfrac? I'll have to check that out.

That's weird, here Io is one of the more flexible terrain painters, my pet peeve is Mars, as it seems to always create checkerboards whatever happens, I think it misses some textures, but I can't say for sure.

In the addon folder, you should see a "mars.ini" file and a "marstrn.ini" file. Use the "marstrn.ini", it paints Mars satisfactorily. The "io.ini" file paints io fine I guess, but it doesn't paint lava or the charcoal rocky stuff. Just the sand and dried up lava. :\

Natty Bumppo got a few .ini files that you can use for auto painting your maps, they are located in his maps zip archive.

EEEEHHHH, well I had a huge Io map with lots of detailed terrain, and try as I might, the .ini file didn't paint very well. I have tried tweaking it tons of different directions, without any success. I wish I understood the .ini files enough so that I could create my own, like he did... Thanks for the help though. Even if the file won't paint the entire map perfectly, it'll definitely make it easier than painting it ALL by hand.
