In the NDSF campaign, on the last Mars mission , you are told to go assist the 5th platoon, but you are instead told to inspect the hepheastus then look for flight log database, then told to inspect the lauch pad. So, What exactly happens to the 5th? Well, I have completed campaign on hard millions of times, so now i look for errors and stuff. Earlier today, i had a look on this mission and found some answers! 8) When you start, a White target is on your screen directing you to the 5th before you get new objectives, I told my Recycler to go to the 5th and targeted it (by pressing t while looking at the Recycler) so i can see what it sees. I then activated cheats 'bztnt' for unlimited ammo, then 'bzbody' for unlimited shields and health, then 'bzradar' so i can see everything on the map without being in close proximitry with things. I escorted my Recycler to the 5th and took out all enemies that came in my way. due to the fact that you cannot go to the 5th platoon as it is out of the map, i had to run the risk of leaving my recycler un attended while heading towards a warzone! :| Well, it turned out that the 5th platoon DOES NOT EXIST IN THIS AREA! The clip you see is infact the 5th Platoon fighting BUT in a completely different place to the mission itself! I COULD BE WRONG! I COULD BE RIGHT! WHO KNOWS!?!

This is because the 5th is completely irrelevant in comparison to the hepheastus and the flight log. It's just a story starter, to give the level some 'realism' Also if you don't get to the launchpad, don't the 5th draw off some CCA units?
and how did you get there with the recycler without launching the hepheastus cinematics and losing the 5th target?

Your last question is a good one, when i told my recycler to go to 5th, it goes straight there, even if then target is gone, it still goes lol :? I know what you mean, if you send a unit to a attack another, if the target is destroyed then your unit stops in its tracks.

I know how to complete the mission without doing anything with hephy or the flight log database!
Eject from your tank at the very beggining while facing towards the high point of the map, and you can stroll over to the launch pad, inspect it then job done!

You don't need to eject, it's possible to jump up to the high ground if you have a big enough run up...
That is intriguing how you got it to go all the way there, Personally I have never been through the canyons, I always wimped out and did the mission the easy way, over the higher ground.
Do you always have BZ radar cheat on? that must really ruin fury levels, the fun is the surprise.
In the penultimate level, build a single howitzer, and the hover furies drop straight into the crater. causes havoc.

No I don't. AND EDIT THAT OUT NOW! If you want to do that sort of thing use Private message. Don't ever leave your email address openly on a forum that is publicly accessible.
(not being bossy, it's really for your own good, unless you want hundreds of viagra adverts)

i have also wondereded this question and i came to the same answer. cept i did it with launching the hephesus cinematic and going to the base, but with the the cheats. i have discovered thru multiple attempts on this mission that theres this HUGE soviet army that is stationed off the map near the soviet recycler and as soon as you ID the launch pad they start going to attack you. the 5th doesnt rly play a part at all. i also found that to view my recycler while it traveled to where the "5th" was, i cld hit the "r" key, which repeats the last transmission, but while on satalite mode, it centers the cam on the recycler. very handy

yea I like that too, especially when I'm bored and I use map editor + sattelite + the r key and I put the recycler in some unknown place 500,000 metres away from me :P

The funny thing is even after you save Lt Elridge and the 5th, they get mauled on Venus lol... And the funniest thing is, even if you save the recycler, it doesn't do much of anything. Just sits there counting as an ENEMY recycler. At the funny things of campaign.

The 5th would've been fine if they just started scrapmaking.

They lost their recycler... and scrapmaking only works in mp... and you can't really scrap-make while you are under attack... as in enemies in your base, near your base, on your base etc etc

LOL! :D

The reason why you are commanded to not continue on your way to assist the 5th Platoon, is because they decide that they need you to recon the launchpad to figure out where the CCA went with the Cthonian Flight Log Database. So while the 5th Platoon continues battling the CCA, they are distracted and you can move into their base without much resistance. It was a strategic decision made by high command. :)

Hey everyone! I'm new to the forum but an old player of BZ 1 from more than a decade ago. Have been playing this level and losing each time. Seems if I follow directions they way ordered, my recycler dies as well as me while trying to get back. Do I need to get back to the recycler first and then escort them or what? I've made it to the spaceport and got the info...it's the getting back to dustoff and sending my recycler there first thing that wipes me out. Any suggestions?
