The following are some tips and tactics devised by me, XANA (or as I like to call myself, the Emperor! ). Anyhoo, On to the tactics: BASE DEFENSE TATICS= Put turrets in a half-circle ring around something you wish to defend heavily, an entrance, your rec ect. Best used on the single entrance to base, especially if upgraded to dual ATStabbers.Good VS: Any attacking, moving force, if no open spaces are found in between the turrets Bad VS: DayWreakers, because the turrets are so close together, and rockets, and comets
= Place guntower power supplies diagonally behind the guntower(s) Place the power supply behind a rec, factory, or other big structure, and you will be able to have gun towers almost impossible to shut down unless destroyedGood VS: everything, unless towers are destroyed, then nothing of course Bad VS: nothing, unless towers are gone, then everything= Use two/three power supplies for every guntower, especially the farther-away ones Good VS: N/A Bad VS: N/A= Build hangers close to important units that are stationary Just watch the unit(s)'s ammoGood VS: N/A Bad VS: N/A= Build Supply/Hanger close to turret ring (see the first tactic) Turrets have lots of ammo, but weak armor so a hanger is best, and you can use Armory for reloadingGood VS: N/A Bad VS: N/A= Build outposts Good for trapping, but watch the spacing or comets/rockets/daywreakers are deadlyGood VS: everything that moves Bad VS: Daywreakers, Comets, and Rockets (or anything with an explosion)= DayWreakers Good for close together things and taking out important targets, but watch your scrap and Daywreakers can be destroyedGood VS: everything stationary and/or close together Bad VS: moving things, or spaced out stuff= Allies Good for making a huge, heavily defended base, but watch if they turn on you, and some use this to spy on where your stuff is placedGood VS: the enemy(s) Bad VS: TraitorsBASE ATTACKING TACTICS:= Build silos behind outposts Good for collecting the scrap from destroyed units Make sure you have other scavs elsewhereGood VS: Scrap Bad VS: anything that gets past the outpost= Constuctor Scrap making Not recommended, but put here since others use it= Swarm attacking (aka Relentess Onslaught) Send units out as fast as you can build them and don't stop for ANYTHING But watch pilots and scrap Makes this easier if you move factory closer to enemy's baseGood VS: bases/single targets Bad VS: smart players, and human players in general, since they see it coming and know more than the ai about tactics= Long Range Bombarbment Howitzers make good artillery, 600m is not bad range at all (600m when told to fire, 200m when ai does the targeting) Keep them safe thoughGood VS: bases Bad VS: single targets that move= Mines Minelayers are nice for making the opponent think twice about going through them 5 minelayers can make it nearly impossible to go through without being hit MCurtains can shut down an opponent, until they go away, since nothing can go through them from the ground; howitzer fire can fly over the shield though Mines do go away after awhileGood VS: making people think twice Bad VS: when the mines go awayI want you to add your own strategies to the list, if you have any differnet ones. Comments on tactics and tactics that defeat others welcome too.

Suggestions I've found to be atleast slightly useful or things I've toyed around with: Blast Turrets (One Chain, One Blast), while they don't have the armor of a gun tower, and have a finite ammo, they have a decent advantage to being able to be moved to locations fairly fast, and don't have that little power supply problem. I usually have more than one in an area to help out with the ammo usage. I think one turret gets maybe 18 blasts when firing with chains, but having two or three helps spread out the ammo usage. They help keep a place defended until you can use something else, like actual towers. I came up with this idea after finding myself constantly losing my recycler from not being able to build a defense fast enough to stop rushers. I still consider this untested as usually I find myself using these to help keep an area clear enough to build on, and not for actual defense. I'd highly recommend giving a flanker with 2x SPs a go though. Makes for a very nasty raider, as it's very fast and damaging. Just don't expect to get into extended battle, the 32 shots for a player flanker and 28 for a recycler version doesn't last through it's ammo long. Nice thing is though, the only things that can catch you are either a Scout or something fitted with blasts. I haven't experimented with other configurations very much, but I can say from DMs that 2x blasts aren't very good for flanker action. 10 shots only on player flankers, so you have to make all your shots count, which is hard to do from the experiences I've had.

here tesla again...
i think this is a good one . i agree a lot with you. but i thinks upgrade all of your defense consume all of the scrap of the map , and only left your army and enemy army , 1 comet to a higtly spensive turrets defense you lost a great value of scrap and you get only 4 pieces on exchange i think a good base need a good economy ( scrap stored ) and well placed defenses
and abouth firestorm says , when you get a unit with 2 diferent cannons , they aim at diferents time . so theylose performace . its beter make 2 units with the same cannon hardpoint as i said before . 1st gt = 2 blast 2nd gt = 2 flash
good upgrades tanks + pop gun ( awesome upgrade dmg ) scout/figther (tag gun improve dmg) rockets tanks ( dual shadows )

I find your tank pop gun combo to be a really nice setup for when you're fighting against some AI units, but the problem is a player unit can strafe and cause most the mortar shots to miss.
Usually though with my blast turrets, they usually get put in such a place that the travel time of the chainguns are not much of a factor when hitting a target with the blasts being used at the same time. The problem is dealing with the slow turning speed of a turret, and the fact that they don't have much armor. Well, that and having those things destroy some of my base buildings because the dang thing doesn't realize it shooting though a friendly building doesn't work. -.-

I shall revive this thread with two new tatics/tips.
= Endless Howitzer Bombardment *different than my other tatic on this* Use 10 howitzers placed randomly within the 600m limit, and position yourself far/close enough to be able to order them without being spotted. Works very well with small maps with bases that have walls that can't be climbed. Combine with the Relentless Onslaught tatic and it's even deadlier (Basically you keep making howitzers to replace ones you lose and tell them to get there and fire) Combine with the Factory-moving tip to make it easier to set up the Howitzers Combine with the Satalite to keep an easier tab on your howitzers Combine with the below tatic for an even deadlier setup. Good VS: Bases and Everything that doesn't move that is within the 600m limit Bad VS: Player Units and Things that can move
= Boxing In *different than the outpost tatic* Take Gun Towers and AI units and place them outside the enemy base, but far enough to block the entrance(s). Put the AI ships in front of the gun towers, and place the power supplies behind the gun towers. Once your ready, like after setting up howitzers out side the base, retreat behind the Wall (of gun towers), and attack with the ships/howitzers. It works good for stopping the enemy from getting scrap outside his base, and it works still even better if the player unit is inside the base when you finish setting up, it forces him to watch his scavengers even more closely than before since even the slightest hit will cause him to lose all that scrap... Good VS: Unexpectedness Bad VS: People who get past the wall, so watch the guntower/power supplies' HP, and keep the constructor handy.

One thing that kinda bothers me about most the user maps is that they all lend themselves towards exclusively using this strategy. I mean there's nothing wrong with boxing in an opponent, but alot of the maps are built with a "No Way Out" when only one or two passages are blocked. :/

Yeah, that is true.
There should be one that has so many passages that it'd be impossible to block all of them.

Ways to defend your recycler:
1. Always have around 4 tanks to follow recycler 2. Keep a GT within reach of the recycler(most open part) 3. Never be too far away from recycler(incase of suprise attacks) 4. always destroy rocket tanks enroute to recycler(they have comets that can destroy your rec in 2 hits)
