I just found this website, and having never even heard of Red Odyssey before, I thought it would be fun to try, however I've had troubles getting to run and hoped you guys could help. I can go into the main menu and select a mission, and it will load along with the voices explaining it. But the moment it goes into the game I get a Unhandeled Exception. I can play the normal BZ fine from the installer I got here (which I did a full install of, sans the Daemon Tools(already had it and mounted the .iso)) along with my retail CD version as long as it is in windowed mode or running a higher resolution (unless its the software renderer, then anything works), but I can't figure out how to do that for Red Odyssey. Even with the same render.cfg files, and with high resolutions enabled, I can't change the resolution in game, nor can I figure out how to start it in windowed mode. I'm currently running Vista 32 bit, on a Nvidia 8500 GT with the most recent drivers. I've got 3 Gigs of RAM, and a 2 Ghz dual core pentium processor, but I doubt if the systems the problem. It's probably just some stupid thing I'm not realizing... It does run in software mode, but I'd prefer it in hardware mode so the graphics actually have texture and the fps is better.

Sounds to me like your BZ works fine in hardware mode fullscreen with the resolution set to 800x600 or higher. Copy BZPLYR.DEF and render.cfg from BZ to RO, and it should work.
Also, when you installed Battlezone 1998, it added Window mode and Software mode shortcuts for RO in the start menu.
Start --> Programs --> Battlezone 1998 --> Troubleshooting

Yah, I figured the resolution thing was the problem, but even when I copy both those files you mentioned, the problem persists. Neither Odyssey or Odyssey14 (I don't really know the difference between them) will let me change the resolution even though it's set to allow higher resolutions in the render.cfg, which is identical to the one that allowed high resolutions in Battlezone. If I click on the button for resolution, nothing changes, the resolution just sticks at 640 * 480. And for running in windowed mode, I don't know where the troubleshoot folder is. I don't know if it's because of Vista, but when I go to start, then all programs, then Battlezone 1998, it lists Battlezone, Configuration Utility, Extras (which opens a folder I searched for the shortcuts but to no avail), Map Editor, Red Odyssey, Uninstall, IA missions, and Links (no troubleshoot folder). And in the actual program folders I can't find any shortcuts either. I'd edit a shortcut to add in whatever tags are necessary, but I can't edit it in Vista.

You don't have the shortcuts I have? Your Battlezone is working in full screen hardware mode or not?

Quote: but even when I copy both those files you mentioned, the problem persists. To someone else I would say: "that's impossible, you must have done something wrong", but judging from your post, you seem to know what are you doing. Just to be sure, reinstall, do the copy-paste (BZPLYR.DEF and render.cfg), then try again. If BZ still works but RO does not, then I'm . Quote: it lists Battlezone, Configuration Utility, Extras (which opens a folder I searched for the shortcuts but to no avail), Map Editor, Red Odyssey, Uninstall, IA missions, and Links (no troubleshoot folder). Current BZ98 installer version is 1.3 (english version only). I forgot when I made Troubleshooting shorcuts... maybe in version 1.1, not sure. Could it be that you have v1.0? Quote: I'd edit a shortcut to add in whatever tags are necessary, but I can't edit it in Vista. You can't? All you have to do is add " /win" to the target line. Quote: Neither Odyssey or Odyssey14 (I don't really know the difference between them) Odyssey.exe goes to RO lobby, while odyssey14.exe goes to BZ lobby. Like that BZ and RO players are not split (although they can't join each other's games).

I still can't get RO to change the resolution no matter what I do, which is odd, but I did figure out how to start it in windowed mode (stupid mistake on my part). I'm guessing since my installer was dated for late 2009, I probably did have an earlier version that didn't include those shortcuts. I still find it odd that I can't change resolutions at all to play in fullscreen, but at least I can play it now. Thanks for the help!

Seeing as there's a topic for RO problems, I figured it'd be appropriate for me to post mine here. Mine keeps saying "Battlezone cannot be found. Please reinstall Battlezone, then reinstall Odyssey." I installed BZ98, but I can't install OBZ from an iso (the splash screen stays stuck, doing absolutely nothing).
As for the UE part, have you tried setting the resolution at 800x600 or higher? That seems to work for me.
EDIT: Oh, oops. This problem's already been resolved...I wish I could move this, or at least delete it...

Sporkinator, I know you are talking for someone else, but I don't have the shortcuts that you have, nor do I have the troubleshooting menu in Battlezone 1998 in the Start Menu. How do I get these shortcuts, so that I can play The Red Odyssey in Windowed Mode?

That post was made a while back. The latest RO installer was made to install after installing Battlezone 1.5, so if you don't already have it, you can download it. Look for that in the start menu. Alternatively, you can just add /win to the target line in your existing shortcut, but if you are going to multiplayer, it won't go to the 1.5 lobby. The latest installer never asks for CD and goes to the 1.5 lobby.
