My rig: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4 Ghz 4 GB RAM ATI HD4850 1GB DDR3 Vista Ultimate x64 SP1Ok so I've downloaded the installer, installed everything and did the video tutorial fix. This helped me to actually run the game without the other errors but as soon as I load up it gives me UE and halts to a black screen. This happens when I choose Hardware. If I run in software I can get into the menus but when I start a game (SP or MP) I have really wierd textures and a FPS of about 1. It just locks up unplayably. So Software doesnt work well. BUT if I run the BZconfig.exe and run a mission directly from there, I can play it perfectly! I can even boost up all the options as well as putting the resolution up to 1280x1024! And it works smooth with no problems whatsoever (graphical or CTDs). Bellow are screenshots. So I'm guessing the game is ABLE to work even on my new rig, but apparently there's something wrong with the menus or smth? It's probably why noone who has a DX10 card can make this work. Maybe you guys could figure this out, I've already searched the forums for all possible solutions to no avail. Attachment:

Nope no change The thing than seems weird to me is that, why does it work when I load a mission from the config? That kind of proves that the engine is compatible with DX10 and the OS,card, etc. My guess is it has something to do with the menus.. some sort of missing file for the menu animations or something...

Yeah, there's definitely something wrong with the menu (ATI and OS conflict)... if you figure out what it is, you will be our hero and I'll make new version of Bz '98 installer that works with Vista and 7.

Well I am known for making really old games work on Vista and XP , but still this would mean looking into the source code :\ I'll post back if I figure something out...

Ok so I went into the event manager for windows and found the error it's been giving me:
Faulting application BZone.exe, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x35c662a6, faulting module AcLayers.DLL, version 6.0.6001.18165, time stamp 0x490bce7a, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00010519, process id 0x3ba8, application start time 0x01c9f42a0d71e2c8.
So I found this AcLayers.dll online and put it in my BZ folder also Windows/System32 folder. Now I get a different error:
The program BZone.exe version 0.0.0.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Problem Reports and Solutions control panel. Process ID: 3b84 Start Time: 01c9f42b3ee2b610 Termination Time: 115
The errors changed as soon as I put in this .dll. So now I don't get UE anymore but somekind of wierd error.. A blank box with just an OK button. Same resulto though = CTD.
So my guess is this AcLayers.DLL is some sort of old dll that's probably used by the menus when 3D ACC is ON. Since it wasn't anywhere on my Vista rig im guessing they left it out since XP probably.
So Mr.Spock if you perhaps have a XP machine maybe you could try copying this .dll (it said it's in Windows/system32/dllcache) from your XP machine to your Vista/7 machine (into the root folder for BZ and into Windows/system32). This is a long shot but the .dll I downloaded probably isn't the right one (since I don't know where it came from), but still I know that I have made games work by putting certain .dll files into the root directory.

Version 6.0 means Vista, 5.1 is XP, 6.1 would be Win7. I'm not sure if mixing those file versions is good for Windows... I've attached WinXP version of AcLayers.dll if you wanna try it...
However, my Win7 reports different error; sometimes acxtrnal.dll, sometimes ntdll.dll and sometimes "unknown". I've tried putting XP version of both files in main BZ folder and dll BZ folder. No luck. To change someting in system folder of Win7 I have to change permissions and stuff, so I postponed that a bit. Let me know if you achieve something with WinXP AcLayers.dll...
