Hello!
I noticed a few video walkthroughs for the RO missions on youtube and was thinking of doing my own as I play through the missions (again - it's been nearly a decade, and I'm a little rusty), but I was wondering what applications people use to video the gameplay?
Also, I'm cheating (a little) by using the walkthrough posted on here on some of the missions and I noticed a little addition that can be made for mission 6 (Blitzkrieg). It's an insanely messy mission but it can be made a little easier by using the armory as bait - before you run in, you can let the armory go and set up THEN send in the troops - the enemy AI is so focussed on the armory that it doesn't pay enough attention to the fact that 11 RDs are ploughing down on the base (and the armory can take bonkers amount of damage as soon as it's set up). Whilst the other RDs are on a killing spree, you can run around and shoot the powers.
After this you get a zillion chinese units onto you and it's hard work keeping them alive long enough so that they can defend the recyc when it arrives, but if you take the RDs away back up the slope, equip yourself with an area weapon (well rockets or mortars, comet would've been amusing but you don't get a lot of bang for your buck) then let the chinese units swarm the armory whilst you lob stuff at them. A couple of units will come after you but they can be quickly lured into the group of RDs behind you. This all means that when the recyc does arrive then you have a big load of fairly fresh RDs to defend it and you have time to set up defences, factory and APC.
Again, it means leaving the armory undefended and being shot at for ages, but it can take the abuse - both times I did this, I kept an eye and it didn't drop further than 1/2 way on health.

Moving the armory closer is essential, but I never considered using it as bait, I suppose I never have seen them as tough, usually the enemy ignores them, like in mission 4, the armory is undefended all the way through and it never gets looked at. (Has anyone here ever seen it after the initial drop?) Awesome idea!

Great idea with an armory as a bait. Some stratters do something like that in multiplayer too; send few units on the one side of someone's base, then coming from the other with the main force, or even alone.
For recording I used Growler Guncam in the past, now I use Fraps.

Dunno if this is worth mentioning, but on mission 12, the walkers that appear (the main problem in the mission) will not attack back, so if you have a couple of units following you to distract the walker escort a bit, then they can be taken out easily and way before they get in range of the portal. Also, in mission 14, if the APC is being a bother, then just wait for about 1 minute after you're told that its on the map (i.e. the 2nd message about the APC), then you can zip up the scenery and avoid all those annoying bolt mines and turrets...you'll then have an A1 tank to take out the APC, zip back up the mountains and get back well in time for the 3 walkers that appear. The howies can also be taken out fairly easily with a RD equipped with a rocket - just go up the opposite mountain. Now, if someone can tell me how to efficiently take out the base - it just takes sooo long.
