So here is the problem...

In software mode, I can start the game in fullscreen, the menus run fine. However...

Upon entering the game world, it runs fine for a very short amount of time (say, below 1 second) at an FPS of about 120 or so. Then, the graphics go to a dead stop- but the game still responds! I hear sounds, I can still do things, give orders etc. ; I just can't see what I'm doing, as the graphics do not move, as in, a dead stop. No matter what mission I play the same thing happens. Higher resolutions only make the problem worse, as in, reducing the time in which the graphics respond.

Another thing, I have tried the ACT (I believe it was called) trick for Vista. The problem was not remedied.

I can play the game in a window via configurator tool, but, as no vsync is applied, I get an FPS of about 5,000 (yes, people, FIVE THOUSAND!), which makes the mouse act like a drunk driver and leads people to accuse me of cheating due to increased firing rate and movement speed. This I understand.

However...

I can run the game O.K. in a Win95 emulator (Can't do Win98, no install discs and I'd love to stay legal :) ), however the mouse in-game is whack. Going up goes down, but then going up again jumps it to the top of the screen, going down flips my tank upside down, and going left goes right.. etc.

Vista 32 or 64 bit?

Graphic card driver version is 9.4?

What exactly you did with ACT? Everyone should do something differnet with it, if no same system specs and BZ issues of course.

I believe Win98 emulation for BZ wouldn't work different than Win95 emulation.

Are you sure you get 5,000 FPS? Maybe it's 500.0, but that's also too much.

Battlezone 1998 installer?

Have you tried running BZ in WinXP compatibility mode?

What happens in software mode?

Let me break it down here :)

If you'll re-read my post, I mention that I am using software mode. I do not use hardware mode because it gives a UE crash on startup in fullscreen.

Yes.

5000.0. Five thousand.

I just followed the tutorial. Have no idea what else to do.

Of course.

No need to re-read, I meant hardware even though I wrote software by mistake (wasn't that obvious?). You didn't mention UE in HW mode till now. ACT is supposed to make a patch for HW mode.

Unhandled Exception on launch. With compatibility mode (using XP mode built into Vista, not my patch) I would crash when trying to load into a game.

DO's tutorial is for 64Bit Vista and NVidia GeForce 8800GTX. Try checking something else (extra) in that patch, experiment like usanavyfish did, but there's no guarantee it will work.
