Any other places to find the vista fix? I got BZ1 to start by running it in compatibility mode with Windows XP, along with shutting off the Desktop option. However while ingame, it runs for a second then freezes, while going to the main menu and returning to the game seems to unfreeze it for a second. I have windows vista, and a Radeon 4350 graphics card with catalyst center. I have to post this fast to get somewhere, so I apologize if this is a copy of someones earlier questions on what settings should be used.

*After a while of tinkering with the program...* Finally got it to work on Vista 64bit. Lets see.. It worked after I ran it in Windows Xp compatibility, and in window mode.

Congrats, Alias. I have Vista 64 home Premium and an Nvidia 9800M GTX and can't get this thing to run.
I completely removed all Battlezone programs, and the ACT patch, and started over. Installed from the original CD, installed the original 1.4 patch, installed BZ98 in another directory, then I applied the ACT settings from Mr. Spock and USNavyFish, and installed that, too.
The damn thing refuses to run. As soon as BZONE.EXE is started from the Config Panel, it locks up with a black screen and shows as NOT RESPONDING in the Task Manager.
I haven't quite given up hope yet, since I just installed Freelancer and it runs great. But it's not Battlezone, dammit ...
Maybe I should drop the contents of BZ98 into the original Activision/Battlezone directory...

You tried starting it with the BZone Config I bet, with window mode selected? All I did was mess with the Act a little.. did what this post states earlier. Cept' ive got no voices from units or campeign, and now I get to figure out how to make it run despite router. *Adds* Multiplayer that is

Maybe I should drop the contents of BZ98 into the original Activision/Battlezone directory... Ahh... there's your problem... having not working original CD installation (1.4 patch is not enough) and BZ98 installed in the same time, then trying to run config utility... Config utility first checks Activision/Battlezone folder, then your custom BZ folder (BZ98). So you are actually starting original CD installation (not patched properly) instead of starting BZ98 installer... Uninstall everything and install only BZ98. Then set WinXP compatibility on bzone.exe and try window/software mode. Both should work.

What? A possible solution? Great! I just saw this post, and I'll try it this coming weekend and let you know what happens. Thanks, Spock.

I uninstalled everything, deleted the folders and remaining files, then put the XP compat mode on bzone.exe via the right-click/properties.
Didn't work. Then I turned that off and tried the ACT patch I had made from various posts here.
That didn't work either. So I tried booting via USB from an old XP hard drive from a previous laptop, but it BSOD's out after the XP logo appears for a few moments. The BSOD disappears too quickly to read. So dual booting from XP on USB doesn't seem to be palatable to this laptop.
I'm out of ideas.
