Sup everyone,

New kid on the block. I once played the battlezone demo on my old P1 166 MMX ages ago when I was young but never got the full version. But I was psyched over it as it was one of the coolest games around I've ever seen.
So short story; I found this forum, downloaded the game. Played the first 2 missions in "1024x768 stretched", exited the game and then all the issues started.

Info: I'm playing on a HD ready 32" LCD TV hooked on through a standard-VGA out cable like a CRT monior. GF 7600 GS videocard with latest drivers. Windows being displayed in 1360x768 / 60 Hz.
I downloaded full download version 1.4M and mounted with DT.

Whenever I try to boot up the game, it gives me an error. The game launches though, but I can't change the graphics options anymore. it stays at 640x480 no matter how many times I click it. Then when I select single player, it crashes back to Windows.

I launched BzConfig to select Windowed Mode, however in Windowed mode I can't reshape the size of the screen or change the resolution. It stays in 640x480. I can play it, but it's a small window (it looks more like a flash game now) and I have around 200 fps which would make me a cheater if I decide to play online.

I figure there is no built-in widescreen support as the game is far too old. But I'm asking, is there any fix out there? Or is anyone able to help me.
I would gladly settle for 1024x768 stretched full screen. I don't mind as long it runs like the first run I did.
Which is because old games do that as they don't recognize widescreen tv's and they think you hooked up a regular tv on your tv-out. and standard tv-out's only support 640x480 / 800x600 / 1024x768 and are the only resolutions selectable.

It's like playing Warcraft3 on a widescreen since Warcraft 3 only supports 4:3 resolutions, however you can fix that by messing in regedit config.

So please help with suggestions :)

Additional Information:

Yes I did select the option: Enable High Resolutions.

And still unable to change the resolution ingame other then 640x480.

Hey Pompidom,

After playing demo as a kid, getting full version, years after, should be like a kid's dream come true. :) Shame your dream lasted only for the first two missions. :(

I can't really help you with your problem because I never heard something like that, losing high resolution option after exiting. I will tell you what I know about BZ resolutions and maybe help you help yourself... :)

As far as I know, BZ checks with your graphic card/monitor what BZ resolutions you can "see" and offers them to you in the options. Widescreen isn't supported, but except those 3 you mentioned (640x480, 800x600, 1024x768) some PC's also have option for 1280x1024 and that are all resolutions available in BZ. My laptop can't "see" 1280x1024, but my desktop PC with 17" and 19" LCD can.
Also, window mode supports only 640x480.

Now back to your problem. Seems that something happened between the time you finished 2nd SP mission and the time you started BZ again, unable to change res. Maybe you updated graphic card driver... Maybe your BZ folder somehow got corrupted...

For now, I suggest you to reinstall BZ and check if you again got 1024x768 option. Then exit BZ and check if you lost it.
Before uninstall save this folder: "C:\Program Files\Activision\Battlezone\save", so you would not have to pass those missions again.

Hehe, indeed I'm kinda psyched to finally being able to play the damn game. Commanding a base + all the units while fragging the s*** out of everything yourself.

And guess what, again I failed to apply the first thing you should always try first. A simple reboot.
The game boots back up in 1024x768 (stretched) in D3D in fullscreen.
So yay for me and a big thx for your amazing project.

If I'm not too lazy I'll drag down my old 19" CRT monitor as soon as I finish the single player to try the multiplayer mode as long as I'm allowed to play in 85 Hz. I have sensitive eyes and get a headache from a CRT monitor displaying anything in 60 Hz.

i'm glad you fixed your problem and thanks for appreciating bz1.4m. if you miss something in it or you want to contribute to the next version in any way you can do it here.

nice to see there's still someone trying to have 60fps for a change. online ppl are mostly trying to get more. seeing their 200fps weapons and hearing "i have 60fps" song is always good for a laugh.

there's a way to have crt monitor with 85hz refresh rate and run bz at 60 in the same time. that option is called "refresh rate override", i described it in faq.
indeed, you do need as much as possible hz with crt monitor, but only in 2d applications. most 3d applications work in <60hz, bz is one of them. when bz timer "breaks" (when you start getting more than 60fps) bz starts looking worse and it gets more laggy (that also happens if your render visibility is more that 150).

so when you are playing with 60fps and 150 visibility you are not only fair, you are also enjoying in minimum lag and best bz graphics you can get. :)

Hello is there any way to get the game working in widescreen resolutions such as 1680 x 1050? Thanks ahead of time, and keep up the good work!

Good News: The 1.5 patch has widescreen support.

Bad News: it isn't finished yet. :P
