I'm wondering how I can enable windows mode. I see many people talking about it on this forum but I can't find the option anywhere to enable it.. Currently I'm on the 1.4 patch. I did a quick search, though I didn't see anyone post actually how to enable it.. I must be blind or something..

In configuration utility, check "Window Mode" and press "Start". Or, Start --> Program Files --> Battlezone 1998 --> Troubleshooting --> Battlezone (Window Mode) Or, modify your shortcut and add "/win".

Great! Just going to do the shortcut one! Thanks so much. Quick edit: Putting it in windows mode even fixed all my problems.

Making fullscreen work might be possible, but for that we would need to know your system specifications. By the way, welcome to BZ!

If it's not broken, don't fix it! I love playing in windows mode, so it's no bother. Hopefully I don't come across another error though.

Well I guess if your framerate stays close to 60, there's no problem. Otherwise the game will run faster and you'll suffer from slow mouse turning, both due to known bugs in 1.4.
You should post your system specifications anyway, you never know, it might be something simple to make fullscreen work, but it depends on your setup. That was the main reason for starting the 1.5 patch, to fix the issues it has on systems like yours.

Some specs:
Vista, 32 bit Nvidia GeForce 8700M GT Intel Core 2 Duo (1.66ghz) 2gb RAM
From what little I played, it ran way smoother in window mode (FPS wise).

I was assuming that your BZ was crashing when you tried to run it in fullscreen. How much FPS do you get in fullscreen?

Depends on the mode I would use. If I did 3D mode (from the options), it would crash. If I didn't, then it played quite laggy. I don't know the command for FPS, but it was clearly lower then 30.

OK, try running fullscreen with 3D on and resolution set to 800x600 or higher.

It doesn't let me change the resolution. I click the button and nothing happens.

You must have patched manually from original CD, High Resolutions are enabled by default in the BZ installer. Anyway, open render.cfg in your BZ folder with notepad. Find "HiRes" and make sure it's set to 1. If there's a semicolon on the beginning of the line, remove it. Save changes and close. Now you should be able to change the resolution.

Did so. Now I can change the resolution, but it doesn't go that high. I can only make it lower lol.

Lower resolutions than 640x480 means 3D is off. Do this (now after you edited your render): Sporkinator wrote: OK, try running fullscreen with 3D on and resolution set to 800x600 or higher.

Oops. Works now, thanks. I can change the resolution to higher, however it works awful once again. With 3D mode on (fullscreen), the game is back to being very laggy. With it in windowed mode, I get a black screen, but sound plays.
